In these discussions about firing Gannon I get a kick out of the out of touch radio commentators outrage about the Big Red. Bickley was raging about how terrible the organization has been since it has been in AZ. If a person had analyzed this team for 36 years and time in St. Louis since Bill Bidwill became sole owner they would recognize that the Big Red are what you have been observing. Like a blind hog they will root up an acorn from time to time. Expect a couple good years every 10-15 years. So be happy because they are coming due again soon. Most cases it happens unexpectedly like with San Diego State's Don Coryell. Proven winning NFL HCs will not work for Bidwill whether it is Bill or Michael. So why be shocked. This is the Big Red. This is what you wanted. It isnt going to change as long as Bidwill owns the team. AZ should have waited for an expansion team. St. Louis would not build Bidwill a stadium to prevent them leaving in 1988. Had Bidwill waited eventually the city/county would have built a stadium. It would have happened in time to prevent their moving if the fan base had demanded it but they had been demoralized by Bidwill so they were apathetic. The AZ stadium barely passed even thoughe tourists were paying for it. What happens the next time he asks for a stadium or significant upgrades to current stadium?

PS Free agency has only made Bidwill less competitive. Prior to free agency they didnt have to keep a player happy to keep him from going elsewhere. Bidwill the story goes walked by his QB Jim Hart in the hallway and didnt say hello. On another occasion Bidwill saw that Hart's dad had sticker on his car that only season ticket holders were allowed and ask Jim Hart to tell his dad to take off the sticker. Bidwill fired Coryell by changing the locks.

I'm leaning towards firing Gannon simply for not identifying that Klayton Adams appears to be much more competent and influential to a successful offense than Drew Petzing. Should have moved on from Petzing and promoted Adams and we might not be having these discussions.

Obviously we don't know how much Bidwill ties their hands on this sort of thing.

If we get sweeped in division not sure how you justify keeping Gannon? That's a tough sell especially after 3 seasons without a winning record on top of it smh

I think regardless of the season outcome, (barring going 3-14) Bidwill throws Gannon and staff a bone due to KM not being their QB choice and the fact that career backup JB stepped into the very same offense and looked instantly better.
Personally I would’ve fired Gannon after the Tennessee collapse if for no other reason than to not have to hear his 1 word answer, irritating press interviews again.

But BPB is doing just great.

JG should go

Wow, and here’s a coach who actually had laurels he could rest on! But no!!! Not an ounce of complacency in him! This is what a HC should do, hold your staff accountable if it’s not up to par. Rallis shouldn’t even be calling plays based on this teams performance and JG allegedly being a defensive guy.

This is crazy logic. Successful coaches win and they win early in their HC career.

Kyle Shannan took Jimmy G to a Super Bowl.

Sean McDermott went to the playoffs year one with Tyrod Taylor.

Jim Harbaugh went to 3 straight nfc championships and Colin Kaepernick was his qb.

Geno is looking like dog crap yet with Seattle had 3 consecutive winning seasons when starting for them.

Do not be fooled with this “they just need a chance without K1” crap.

On top of that, so say they draft a rookie (who mind you won’t be a top qb taken bc of where the Cardinals will draft)…You really think they are winning in year 4 with a rookie? Who gets to their 5th year without a freaking winning season? That is what people on this board are advocating for? This is Stockholm syndrome type stuff.

Stockholm Syndrome type stuff… lol. Perfect. Much better description than battered fan syndrome.

That’s a poor analogy. The chef and gm are alike in their responsibility to pick ingredients. But that’s where the comparison ends. First, you’re now comparing the customer (fans) to the ingredients (players), so not the same. Also the chef isn’t responsible for getting butts in the seats at a restaurant. That’s the responsibility of the owners, managers, designers, advertisers, etc. It is literally the GMs job to convince - with all the resources he has available - players to sign with the team. He’s part talent evaluator, part strategist, part salesman.
I mean, I guess I figured you'd understand the analogy as alluding to the fact that there are always several moving parts within any organization, and one person effectively doing their job can easily be undone by outside forces. Your post was so black and white. and ended I believe with a "its that simple" and actually, nothing is that simple.

People taking comfort in playing teams close 3 years into a rebuild need to touch grass. Year 3 of a rebuild in the NFL SHOULD be make the playoffs or bust.

Even Kliffy was able to put together a decent team by year 3 - we likely will be even worse off than when we started with JG and Monti.

I really liked JG when he started - great energy and an attacking style of football. After year one, it's like he completely changed and became much more conservative. I miss the guy who said he was going to gut other teams - that guy is long gone.

What are we even doing here? 3 years in we CLEARLY are getting lapped by every team in the division. Our plan to catch up with the division is to stick with the same losers who's trajectory has obviously stalled out? We're going to waste half a decade to prove that Monti and JG are completely out of their depth?
