I would bet money that we will be one of the last teams to sign a coach. It will be under the guise of "we want to cast a wide net"...but we will watch the top candidates get snatched up. Then we will interview a couple guys and watch one of them go somewhere else. Then we will sign a guy that no one else wanted, and say he was our top choice.

I Would prefer to have an "out of left field" hire rather than a "guy who interviewed and was passed over everywhere" hire.

Here's a name. David Shaw. He was a good coach at Stanford. Has been the passing game coordinator for the Lions.

Im mixed on Nix, but he’s immaterial to the conversation because what we’re talking about is how attractive our team is and that a good coach can come in and turn things around like the Bears and Jags. But even with Nix, he was a high first round pick that one of the best coaches in the league thought was the guy he could go to war with. And so far, in his first two years in the league they’ve gotten to the playoffs and are now the 1 seed in the AFC.

But again, the convo is about having a young high first round QB with potential.

We don’t have one of those for the great coach to come in and get the quick turnaround to elevate former #1 overall picks.
Was Nix with the Broncos when Payton was hired? Nope. Payton was hired and then drafted Nix.

It's like a crappy version of moneyball...instead of paying one all pro, pay three terrible players to replace him! The Zach Allen for Nichols/Jones decision showed us exactly what we were getting with Monti.
