Silly hypothetical situation.

We say we are stuck with Murray because of his contract.
But if you were to trade him for a player with a similar contract does it wash each other out.

Example, could we trade Murray to Green Bay for Rodgers?

I know it’s not going to happen but I’m more curious about trading players with similar contracts.

Why would Green Bay make that deal?

Thanks I was wondering if a swap of players would level out cap wise.
No all of the guaranteed money would hit on next year's cap.

If they cut or traded him the Cardinals would take a $97,5280,000 cap hit next year. That would mean you would have to restructure a dozen contracts or cut players. It's pretty much impossible.

In 2024 the cap hit will be $81,521,000. Again, pretty much impossible.

In 2025 the cap hit will be $33,214,000. Thats a more reasonable cap hit, but still pretty damn high.

Not the guaranteed money—the money that’s already been paid. On a trade, all the money you paid in signing bonus gets accelerated.

If he’s CUT, all the guaranteed money is accelerated.

Not sure why, but according to OverTheCap, if they trade Murray after June 1 2023, the cap hit is oddly spread out over the next 5.5 years, and is somewhat manageable at $12-13M through 2026 and $7M in 2027. Still disgusting, though.
