Deng for J-Rich

So the rumors are that Chicago is going to try to land both LeBron and Bosh and make a super team. Pairing those two with Rose and Noah would be freaking bananas. However the Bulls have Luol Deng on a long term, overly expensive deal which would prevent them from having very good depth on the team. Additionally when Rose comes up for a bigger deal in a few years, Dengs deal would be getting in the way.

So here's my proposed deal:

Chicago sends:
Luol Deng
Taj Gibson
1st round pick (or maybe 2)

Phoenix sends:
Jason Richardson

Chicago gets a more natural fit at the 2 spot, giving them perhaps the best starting 5 in NBA history (Noah-Bosh-LBJ-JRich-Rose) and an expiring contract.

The Suns get a replacement for Grant Hill down the line and a guy who can score about 18 a game, making up for the loss in J-Richs scoring. They also get a good post defender in Gibson, who's a young guy who should continue to get better if he can refine his offensive game. The pick(s) help the Suns start building towards the future, even though since they'd be coming from a loaded Chicago team they'd be lower picks.

Now I wouldnt be for this if the Suns resign Amare, then I think you keep JRich and try to win as many games as you can next year. The thinking here was if the Suns lose Amare, they wont be able to sign anyone who could ably replace him, so it may be time to start blowing it up. A deal like this gives them some pieces for the future (Gibson, picks) but also keeps them reasonably competitive with an outside shot at making the playoffs.

Rumor is that LeBron will be part of a sign and Trade and Deng will be the one going to Cleveland since they play the same position. I think the Bulls will need a solid #2 with James and Bosh, but I think the Bulls needs a defensive specialist at the 2. Raja Bell type.

And to ask for Gibson, Deng and two first rounders is a bit crazy. Richardson is not that good and I would not trade away Gibson. Is is going to be the first guy off the bench.

^I hadnt heard anything about a S&T with Deng. I was saying ask for Gibson+Deng+ a pick, and then maybe two. Those picks are going to be late, and thus not highly valuable. J-Rich is a good player, though perhaps the Bulls would prefer a spot up shooter type of a 2 guard who doesn't need the ball in his hands a lot, since there won't be a lot of shots to go around w/ Bosh and LBJ. But J-Richs value is increased by not only the virtue of his contract being expiring but Dengs being overly long and likely hard to move.

Why the hell would the Suns want to do that?

1. Deng is overpaid.
2. Deng is a small forward the most stacked position on this team. Dudley, Hill and Clark we need to get rid off one to free up playing time for Clark not get someone like Deng.
3. Richardson is an expiring contract.
4. Richardson is our only shooting guard.

Infatuation with any Bulls player is a must here. Were Sarver willing to take on Deng's horrendous contract, he'd be willing to sign Amare to market price first.

1. I know Deng is over paid, in the NBA you have to take back bad stuff some times in order to get stuff.

2. I think Earl Clark can play the 4, Grant Hill isn't going to be around for forever and Dudley can play some 2.

3. I know Richardson is an expiring contract, thats why he has higher value than just his playing ability and may be able to net Gibson and a couple of picks.

4. Apparently you're not familiar with Barbosa. Dragic and Dudley can also play the 2, as could Deng if you don't want to shoot a lot of 3s with a particular lineup.

Im just trying to think up ways the Suns can get some pieces to start rebuilding for when Amare opts out. If Amare is gone and the Suns otherwise stand pat, get ready for a few long years of suckiness. They won't be good enough to make any noise in the playoffs if they get there, but with Nash and J-Rich they won't stick enough to get high picks.

Without the addition of young guys who have already shown potential (i.e. Gibson) or additional picks to guard against busts, the Suns will have to make extremely shrewd picks in the middle of the first round to build a bridge to the future, and thats putting a lot of pressure on the F.O. to make the right picks.

Dudley is too slow to play the 2 except for a couple minutes against backups.

Dragic at the 2 is crap as well. He is a poor shooter and not big enough.

Barbosa is also only a shooting guard because he is not a PG. He is a classic tweener or undersized scorer.

Earl Clark at the 4 is also wasted. He is a mismatch at the 3 spot. At the PF position he is a gimmick player.

The Bulls picks will be crap, Gibson is a career bench player really. Deng is overpaid. So this trade makes us worse.

J-Rich should get much better package in return before the deadline. Or we should just let him expire to have more cap space under the new CBA.

In a van...down by the river.
(In the scenario that Amare bolts...)
If you want to rebuild, you start by moving Nash and Hill and JRich.

If you want to tinker for another shot at the title, you bring in a frontcourt player with size who can rebound and play post D.

I'm not sure what this trade accomplishes for us. Richardson may be a more valuable trade asset next season at the deadline.

Doesnt make sense for Suns.

As Slin said, Suns are "short" in SG spot.

I'm actually not opposed to this. Deng/Hill/Dudley swap and switch everything from the 2/3 spots. This also gives us a long term replacement at the 3 spot. Although I like what Taj gives, with the current draft and signings, he really isn't needed. Therefore, I would ask for Deng and a couple draft picks.

If Suns dangle JRich and Dudley, we might get David Lee sign-and-traded to us NYK couldn't get the other max player in Wade/LBJ this season.
