Arm talent!
Because they’re equally likely to play starter-caliber ball in the next two years, and the guy with the $1.1MM salary is going to free up a ton of resources to strengthen the rest of the team?

That should be pretty obvious.
Especially if you put the money across the lines to “strengthen the rest of the team.”

Richardson literally took himself out of the game because he was tired. He’s injury prone. He sucks. Ask yourself why the Colts went out and signed Daniels. That competition died quickly.
Give me Willis because,
A. He’s been on the bench behind a damn good Qb much like Love did.
B. He’s a dual threat.
C. He has shown success when he’s gotten the chance.
D. I don’t GAF how much he cost.
E. Let me know how long or how much longer are we going to continue to use the resources to“build and strengthen the rest of the team”.
Anthony Richardson. Egads. You might as well get Tune back.

When I look at Willis's stats, it shows he has 155 pass attempts in the NFL.

Are we seriously contemplating giving a sizable two or three year deal to this guy?

I would rather have Tune back than sign Malik Willis to a $20 million deal. He doesn’t solve any problems for you.

What’s sizable? We paid Kyler 45m a year and he’s now the 12-14th highest paid qb.
So what’s sizable?
What about Pickett? Cousins? Wilson? Throw a dart on a really questionable group of rookies in the draft.
Hasn’t something been said about a young qb sitting on the bench and learning?
Back to the question. What unreasonable?

So what’s sizable?

15 or 20 million a year for three years?

I'm not sure Slan exactly what his estimated FMV is, but it's seems dangerous to me pay a guy that much for basically a game and half of production, both losses.

It's worth saying Willis's 2025 production came in a Green Bay offense that had elevated Jordan Love to semi-stardom.

What's going to happen to Willis in the Arizona Cardinals offense?

Well, going on this philosophy why even worry about a Qb. Let’s just go with Brissett and call it a day.

No I'm not saying don't take any chances Slan, I'm just saying if we have to gamble let's try to make sure the odds are in little more in our favor.

I think I'd rather blow a draft choice on the QBOTF. At least that way the guy is on a cost controlled contract.

Answers to questions I really wish i had:

1. What kind of off-season budget did Mike have Monti on? or, was Monti's UFA approach just his philosophy?
2. Who ordered the Code Red on Kyler? Gannon? Monti? Mike?

Good question and we will never know the answer.
That’s part of the problem because Monti seems to be forced to operate like an accountant.

What will a first round qb cost for 4-5 years.

Fair point but Willis was at TEN when Tannehill washed out correct?

Was he not able to win the job vs. Will Levis?

Again Slan it's a game and a half of great production in the GB offense, and I think we'd be using up a fair amount of our remaining 2026 cap space to bring him in. It's not like we could add a lot of pieces around him and/or shore up the ILB position on defense.

We could draft oline in rounds one and two, and hope that those picks work out I guess.

I mean, we have to do something about QB1 for 2026.

It is a quagmire, no doubt. I have to believe it has probably helped Malik’s development these last 2 years behind Love.
ANYBODY we get is going to be a roll of the dice one way or another. Simpson is not going to come in here and start. Brissett will be our qb until things go way south, which is more than likely.
I think I’d rather build up the roster around a guy like Willis and plug him into the lineup with an improved 0- line and running game.

Buddy Lamar Jackson isn’t walking through that door. We’re gonna be dumpster-diving for QBs for a moment here.

I’d much rather swap third round selections for Richardson at $1.1MM than pay Malik Willis 20x that.
Buddy Anthony Richardson is worse than Trey Lance.

Either we draft a developmental QB that will probably take 2-5 years before he looks decent (everyone QB besides Mendoza is developmental imo), or we swing on a developmental QB that has already been in the league developing for 5 years. Guys like Willis or Trey Lance. If this staff is on their last legs then I doubt they trust their fate solely to a rookie. Although we might end up going with both options.

If Willis signs a 1-2 year deal for 20-25 million there will be ways to cut him after one year without too much damage. If he's really bad we'll be in position to draft his replacement next year.

I see Willis as a 50% cheaper Kyler, with an easier contract to leave, and he's 3 inches taller. Ideally Willis can operate as a game manager in a run first offense while providing good efficiency on deep shots, and running himself to keep the defense off balance.

But you’re (probably) going to be paying both Willis and Kyler, not paying either. Paying $65 million to have Malik Willis and Jacoby Brissett along with paying Kyler to stay away isn’t appetizing to me.

Would rather just have Kyler for another year honestly.

Even though Willis is still largely an unknown quantity, this seems a little more likely to succeed than drafting one of the 2026 QBs.

I'm not sure it's better than running it back with K1 though HairZach.

We are not picking up any quarterback with Kyler still on this team.
Gannon back.
Petzing Gone
Kyler back because Petzing gone.

It’s coming. But if this happens then why wasn’t Petzing fired weeks ago?
