Augustine yes, but Portis seems like the type of guy they might want to avoid. They won't bring in players that they believe won't fit in well from a chemistry standpoint.

a championship contender wasn’t scared off a guy like Portis.

Outside a miracle signing like Ibaka, our only hope to salvage free agency would be a Baynes sign and trade.

portis or Augustine would have been pretty easy/relatively cost effective fits.
Yup. And we could’ve beaten both deals. Augustine may have been a tough get as a guy his age has been paid and he might want a shot at a championship. But portis should’ve been a fairly easy target.

money? Portis got bubkis. Augustin could have gotten more money as well. Players DO care about money.
So you wanted to spend our full MLE on Augustine? (Not a baiting question, an honest question).

Well that is a whole different conversation. My point is, now that we have made the trade for Paul, what moves have been made around the league that we should be criticized for not making (and the player would of chosen us over the team they chose).

The Suns shouldn't have traded for Paul unless they had a plan to compete now.

There couldn't have been any other serious interest in Paul. OKC did not want the contract. Jones should've held firm.

The story is out there, everyone knows we're looking to trade Kelly and Ricky. Booker and Paul are high-fiving each other. Then, Sarver says, nope, not going to do it because of a mid-value future first. How do you think that goes over with Devin, Ricky and Kelly? That's why you keep things silent and don't tell the world your plans. I don't know how it got out but it helped us screw ourselves.

You're missing the point. If the team continues to flounder, which it certainly will with its present roster, then in two years' time, Paul leaves, Booker asks out, Ayton leaves, and we're stuck with another 5-10 rebuild with our reputation around the league being worse than ever.

How many games do you think they win next year? Let’s define “flounder” shall we.

All NBA markets are not created the same such as the Lakers, Nets and Warriors.

and Milwaukee? If your owner wants to play ball, he can. And we are like the sixth or seventh biggest market in the country.

our owner isn’t rich enough to be in the league. Plain and simple. Blame him for our situation. Not the CBA.

We could of individually beaten both deals. We could not of gotten both players.

If the Suns were intent on moving Oubre they could have traded him for a first round pick, cleared salary, signed a power forward and kept Rubio.
That wouldn't move the needle more than getting Paul IMO. Two things win games in this league and that is talent and good preparation.

Paul makes us more talented at the PG position and helps us a lot with being prepared to win games.

It isn't enough currently to expect us to be a major threat in the West, but we are a better team right now than going that other route. Paul also has the potential to be even bigger if he gets Ayton to step up as well.

exactly. If you make that move, go all in. Otherwise it’s likely the move is primarily window dressing.
I think this was a Booker thing, but as you can see, letting a player dictate personnel moves is usually a recipe for failure. The exception would probably be Lebron, who seems to get the players he needs for success.

They got lucky and drafted a generational player in Giannis.

what does this have anything to do with the point being made?

the same contender that almost got swept by a Heat team that missed the playoffs the year before?

What I’m saying is that the Bucks are a paper contender, but their playoff failures are not “just happening”.
