Even though Willis is still largely an unknown quantity, this seems a little more likely to succeed than drafting one of the 2026 QBs.

I'm not sure it's better than running it back with K1 though HairZach.
Succeed how? Being a Pro Bowler? Leading a team to the playoffs as a starter? I disagree; I’d rather roll the dice on a second round draft pick.

When I look at Willis's stats, it shows he has 155 pass attempts in the NFL.

Are we seriously contemplating giving a sizable two or three year deal to this guy?
it's seems dangerous to me pay a guy that much for basically a game and half of production, both losses.

It's worth saying Willis's 2025 production came in a Green Bay offense that had elevated Jordan Love to semi-stardom.

Game and a half of production?? Willis has three full starts in the last two years and is 2-1 with a 134.6 passer rating and 77.3 QBR, with the loss coming last week despite a spectacular performance.

Yep it's a tiny sample size, but strictly comparing him to Richardson, I see no way to put any hope in the guy who has all of 350 attempts with an 8-9 record with a passer rating of 67.8, QBR of 45.0, who suffered season-ending injuries ALL THREE SEASONS, and even missed additional games before his first two seasons ended after 4 and 11 games.

Bizarre that someone who consistently has snark for anyone advocating for players with the slightest injury histories - and for anyone worried about saving cap space - would be advocating for Anthony Richardson.

What's going to happen to Willis in the Arizona Cardinals offense?
Good question - but that applies to ANYONE the Cardinals bring in - even more so a rookie! Either they get a new coaching staff who can help a QB be successful, or there's no hope no matter who the QB is.

Willis played the Colts (ended the season ranked 29th in defense) and the Titans (drafted #1 overall) in his starts last year

The Packers have an established offense including a running game and lots of skill players. Led by a proven play caller.

Arizona has none of that.

Good luck, Hopizona Hopinals

To be clear, I'm not advocating for A. Richardson in the desert! Absolutely not!

Willis's tenure in TEN, a franchise comparable to ARZ, was far less successful as his recent stint in GB. :)

Willis made his NFL debut in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills in the third quarter after the Titans benched Ryan Tannehill. He completed one of four passes for six yards and rushed for 16 yards during the 41–7 road loss.[19] Willis was named the starter for the Week 8 matchup against the Houston Texans, relieving Tannehill due to illness.[20] In his first start, Willis completed 6 of 10 pass attempts for 55 yards and an interception during the 17–10 road victory.[21] Willis started in place of an injured Tannehill the following week against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.[22] He completed five of 16 passes for 80 yards to go along with 40 rushing yards in the 20–17 overtime road loss.[23] During Week 16 against the Texans, Willis started in place of Tannehill, who had aggravated an ankle injury. Willis finished the 19–14 loss completing 14 of 23 passes for 99 yards and two interceptions while also rushing for 43 yards and a touchdown.[24]

TEN thought so much of Willis that they traded him to GB for a 7th round pick. Wow.

I'm not saying it's impossible Willis can succeed in ARZ, I'm just saying it's a little bit of leap of faith daves.

The hope is that what he's shown in Green Bay indicates that he's improved thanks to his experience under LaFleur. He was considered a raw prospect with great tools when he came out, so a few years in the league with good coaching may have unlocked his potential.

For sure it's a leap of faith - but no more so than for some of the rookies being discussed - and FAR LESS SO than for Anthony Richardson!! :barf:

Good input

Last sentence is what's important

We don't have a coaching staff that can develop or improve a QB no matter who is it

Sorry but anyone who got a mortgage company through the GFC unscathed let alone grew said business from a regional lender to a Fortune 500 company during that time has a pretty damn good business acumen.

Dude swung and miss on Brad Beal yes (a trade we gave up nothing for btw). But at least he keeps swinging.
And at every turn when people think the team is boxed in he keeps finishing ways to make moves. He’s showing a strong ability to learn and adjust. And the deep pockets, and willingness to spend, alone make him a “good owner” compared to Bidwill.

If you ask people in the local commercial real estate industry about the deal that Ishbia put together for the team headquarters and other developments in the warehouse district, they’ll tell you it was no joke. Countless groups had been unsuccessfully trying to assemble those parcels for years but he found a way to get it done against all odds. The guy’s a flat out killer.

Now owning a sports team is a whole different animal. Sarver was/is an insanely smart and successful real estate and finance guy too but I do think Ishbia understands from his own time playing sports that you run the two businesses differently. Sarver only knew one method and it never translated to the on-court and adjacent divisions of the team.

the league buzz from the usual national writers is Monti and Gannon stay with significant changes in the coaching staff.

SIGH

Apparently Monti and JG have prevailed on the "i need MY OWN QB" excuse.

My real concern going forward is that both know they are on a short leash, so the reach for whomever QB3 is at 5 -- and then we get the "you cant expect me to win with a rookie QB" excuse and real progress is delayed, AGAIN, for at least another 2 years.

Yeah but is this Gannon and Monti’s agents telling the tale?

I feel like an embarrassing lost removes Gannon. 14 or more points. It’s crazy that no one got to Michael to talk some sense into him.

I like Gannon and think he’s a good leader but he’s gotta go. he doesn’t seem to scheme for opponents. He plays soft zone, rarely blitzes, and could only succeed in Philadelphia because their defensive line was amazing. He is too rigid and doesn’t make any adjustments. reminds me of “the system works” Whiz days.

If you believe all of the above, what is it that you like about Gannon and makes you think he’s a good leader?

He’s steady and doesn’t give all coach speak. He’s accountable. He got stuck with some awful teams that he had giving it their all for the first 2 years. The wheels came off this year. If Bidwill forces him to bring in a new DC and Gannon lets him run his own scheme instead of Gannons, I think he has the skill set to be successful. But, I think Rallis is coming back with the same crap defense so Gannon has to go.

always a possibility

especially since not a single one of those reports have said anything close to "according to sources....."
