The Terminator Franchise Rises Again
Source: Variety
November 10, 2005

Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar's C2 Pictures, which produced Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, has pacted with Warner Bros. TV and writer Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) for Fox's tentatively titled The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The Fox series will focus on robo-warrior Sarah Connor and her savior son John Connor.

Variety reports that Friedman will write the pilot and serve as executive producer-showrunner of the series, which will take place in the fictional time frame between the second and third "Terminator" features. Vajna and Kassar will serve as executive producers, with C2 senior vice president of development James Middleton also producing.

In addition, Vajna confirmed that C2 is in "the final phases of development" of a fourth "Terminator" film and that the series will have a link to what's being envisioned as a new feature trilogy.
"There will be a connection," Middleton said. Linda Hamilton is not expected to be involved in The Sarah Connor Chronicles. And because the series will be focused on the Connor family, it's not anticipated that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would be a regular part of the series either.

Middleton said the series will explore what happened to Sarah Connor after the end of "T2," when the character went on the run. "She has the weight of the world on her shoulder and she also has to raise a 14-year-old son who may be the salvation of the world," he said.

Friedman said his "challenge is trying to figure out how to reinterpret (Connor) for television."

Because the "Terminator" franchise involves time travel and alternate futures, Friedman believe he'll be able to take a few plot liberties in the series -- emphasis on "few."

"The last thing I want to do is take a title and exploit it," Friedman said. "The show needs to stand on its own while still being respectful of the franchise."

-------------------------------------------------------

Wow. A tv show and possibly three more feature films.

They'll have to cast it perfectly - I know Linda Hamilton is too old, but she WAS Sarah Connors. But when I watch T-1 (in my all-time top 10. Maybe top 5.) I find myself wondering for days what her life was like after that. So yeah - done right - which means not TV - I'd be very interested.

I like that - Gov. S. will not be a regular part of the series. LOL

Friedman on The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Source: CHUD
September 2006

CHUD got a chance to talk to Josh Friedman, executive producer and writer of Fox's upcoming "Terminator"-themed series, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

The series revolves around Connor and her savior son, John Connor. The series will explore what happened to Sarah Connor after the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, when the character went on the run.

Here's a clip from the interview:

"I would like to be able to explore as many different avenues of Terminator mythology as possible," he told me. "I think to do a show that is a completely Terminator-less environment would probably not be, in the long run, a wise move or the most interesting thing."

Filming is expected to begin early next year in New Mexico.

This is actually the period that I'm still interested in from the Terminator films...and I liked that T3 ended right where I wanted to see more.

I'd love to see this done well because it could be really interesting..but it will likely be steaming ass piles though. :(

Heroes' Dekker to Play John Connor
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
December 7, 2006

Thomas Dekker is set to play John Connor in Fox's drama pilot "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," from WBTV and C2, the company of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines producers Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna.

Written by Josh Friedman, the project takes place after the events depicted in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and follows Sarah Connor (Lena Headey), a modern warrior and loving single mom to 15-year-old son John (Dekker).

Dekker recurs on NBC's hit new drama "Heroes" as Zach, Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) friend and confidant.

He also had a recurring role on "7th Heaven" and recently guest starred on Fox's "House" and CBS' "Shark."

I don't know who they got to play a crazy mother full of unpredictable, violent behavior, but I would've picked this one ...

Lena Headey is the star - she was the Spartan queen in 300 and an abusive acoholic sex pot in Aberdeen.

mark my words - this show will be atrocious.

Where do they come up with this?

That's entirely THE most uninteresting part of the timeline.

I understand why they have never done a full on machine world version, it's too expensive, I've never understood why they never went there with the movies, budgets can't be the reason. TV sure they can't go there but of all the tripe they've come out with and no one thinks to make the machine world Terminator to me is positively fascinating.

I think the Wachowski Bros. already beat James Cameron to that movie. Only they gave us post-modern Kierkegaard rather than cro-magnon Schwarznegger.

Funny it's nice to know your ideas were financially viable, I told my wife to be over 20 years ago when I first watched the thing that it was cool and all and I liked the movie but I'd really like to see one made in the machine world.

the summer after T2 came out, at the age of 15 (jesus, I feel old right now) I wrote a spoof script with a hot-ass female Terminator dressed in all leather to be the next thing sent down to kill John Connor. I'm still trying to figure out how those suckers at Kassar hacked my computer years before the internet was invented for public consumption!

it even had the line: "She'll be back!" in it. Man, that thing was REALLY distasteful! I wish I still had that file, it would be HILARIOUS to read now - lots of teen-aged sexually frustrated angst taken out through the hot female terminator, using sex as her ultimate weapon. Those legs could break your ribs like snapping a twig.

Ah those were the days.

How often does a teenage boy think about sex? Well when they don't would be an easier question to answer, probably for a minute or two eating pizza, or during finals for a few minutes the rest is just one infinite loop.

All I have to say is God save the current generation with internet access, oh man that's got to leave a mark, I had a few porn mags I scrounged together, today the world is literally there for the taking....

Then I had three girls and ouch!!!!!

BTW, it's sometimes painful to reread what you wrote, I found several of my old college papers the other day, I thought the grading was generous to say the least... wow that's some serious pain right there.

That sort of happened in GoldenEye, too. Maybe you were ahead of your time, afterall. ;)

Anyone else catch this. I thought the terminator was terrible, but over all I guess the writers strike is going to let me watch it. So, basically, it was nothing special.
