Who cares about optics? Kyler has to do some studying Hallefreakinglujah!!!! Can only help.
Yep. And this definitively puts the bed the "there's no proof he isn't studying enough" nonsense. It's now crystal clear he wasn't putting in the work to make him a top QB. Will 4 hours extra a week be enough? Unlikely. Will he put in the extra work necessary to take this team to the promised land? Remains to be seen.

This. Super dumb to put this in a contract everyone can see when, like every other player in the NFL, it should be enforced by coaching.

Putting it in the contract for everyone to see adds nothing that couldn't be done the traditional way.
Clearly that hasn't worked, clearly KM isn't putting in the work, and clearly MB wanted this in there to try to protect the team.

Will it really protect the team? It's probably not nearly enough.

Doing film study because he has to vs doing it because he wants to, is driven, sees value in it... hopefully there'll be a tipping point one day where he sees the benefits. Feels naked and under-prepared without doing it

Has possibly been able to get away with doing the bare minimum previously, compensating with talent

Results like the Rams playoff hopefully hit him between the eyes and serve as a motivator

I heard a talk from a guy who was once world squash champion and he spoke about preparation. Said that there was a peace of mind that comes from when you step onto the court knowing you couldn't possibly have done anything more to prepare yourself to win.

The times you cut corners - slacked off training, missed conditioning sessions, had a few beers, hadn't researched his opponent etc you go in with doubts. Hoping to win anyway and yes getting away with it sometimes but it was when he had that peace of mind that he performed best.

How about you win something before tooting your own horn, youngun, m'kay?
There was nothing wrong with what he said here. He made it to the big leagues & that shows inspiration to a lot of Black-Asian youth that is out there where there is not common at all.

You can roast him for a good bit of things, the news showed that yesterday, but this is just rather pointless imo.

Maybe, but if they are going to do it why do it in such a bad way? Why extend him at all if that's the case?

If you're going to put it in then at least make it a decent number like 12 or 15 hours.

But the whole thing is dumb. It's impossible to monitor and what are they going to do if he doesn't do it? When, if he hasn't been doing it already, their response was to pay him $46.1m per year?

There isn't a chance in hell they would void his G's because he only did 2 hours film work.

Whole thing seems pointless from about 10 different angles.

I really don’t think this benefits anyone.
And I really dont think anything 'leaked" which is a very volitile word with easy to see preconceptions. NFL contracts are public. Writers nowadays are gossip columnists. They all went looking for this the day it hit public record.

The NFL is now just The bachelor, or Love Island for 8 months a year. Its kind of laughable how they have us all hand wringing.

Everyone on GMFB absolutely slated this and Bidwill. But came down heavy on Kyler that the team thought it necessary.

Schrager mentioned that Stafford and Kupp would have "Breakfast club" at 5am every single day to study together and here's Kyler being forced to just do 4 hours.

Well worth a watch.

I disagree. I think the fact that they required it sent a message about expectations. If laid back kliff is incapable of instilling that work ethic, gotta take another tact.

And this question is for everyone on the board who essentially poo poo’ed kylers comments about his minimal film work . . . does this convince you it obviously wasn’t enough?

That he’s not an enforcer and also doesn’t have an enforcer on his staff. Not all coaches are capable of enforcing discipline, but they usually recognize that and put others in place to handle it.

To be fair, it's not something that should have to be enforced.

Any other player would be cut. It's a tough position for the Cards to have an Uber talented guy who doesn't put the study in as he should. Rock and hard place stuff.

However, this is kid level stuff that Kyler should mature out of.

Do you think that they haven’t tried to enforce it by coaching in the past three years? That this was option A? Cmon.

Are they going to bench Kyler Murray in a game because he didn’t do his homework? Cmon.

If what he understands is money because you’re backed into a corner in the competitive space you do what you can.

The Kyler thing permeated every topic on GMFB today. It was a constant punch line.

If they tried and failed before why would be possibly think this completely unenforceable, impossible to monitor, very minimal hours of study contract clause would work?
