I golfed with former OSU and Jets WR Devier Posey yesterday and we were taking about Marvin. Posey is very close to the program and does a radio show on game days.

It's baffling that he's struggled. Garrett Wilson, Terry NcLaurin, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigna, Harrison, Egbuka all played in the same system and same coaching.
They've all thrived in the NFL and out of that group, Marvin was the best at about everything. In private Trey would all agree Harrison was #1. He wasn't called a game changing talent for no reason.

Hell, Egbuka was never the #1 on any of his teams in college and he's probably going to be OROY.

We came to the conclusion that it's the Cardinals scheme and QB play. That's an easy out but Harrison didn't forget how to play.
He's definitely had his bad moments, too many of them, but it makes no sense that out of all those WRs that he is struggling so much. Especially compared to the production of the others.

As for his speed, Olave is the only one who could beat him.

One thing that could be an issue is he suffered that concussion in the Georgia Peach Bowl game and has now had a concussion in his first 2 years. Maybe I'm grasping at straws but it makes no sense that he hasn't been more productive.
I didn’t know about that concussion in college.

3 of those in 3 years makes for a shaky physical future. Which wouldn’t be his fault, but that’s kinda scary for a kid that young, especially because the two with the Cards weren’t the helmet to helmet bell crushers, right? They were the type where he landed on the ground after a catch and knocked his head back.

The QB and the scheme aren't to blame for his lack of hands. Those are a serious issue and one that likely can't be fixed. Those attempts at body catching have been gross.

I don’t get this. Teams have had a good TE and a good receiver at the same time.
Nowhere in that post it said McBride will hold Marv back from being a good WR.

I don’t foresee Marv ever putting up Godly stats due to sharing targets with a better receiving option on his own team.

I have been very positive about Harrison’s potential. I believe it’s silly to give up on him this quickly. Just so you understand my objectivity you should know what I wrote about the draft. “I actually think Odunze is the best fit for this offense and this QB.” “Odunze seems to enjoy contact and the physicality of the game. Harrison runs better routes and is better at avoiding contact. I give Odunze a slight edge in blocking. Considering Murray is not great at ball placement and the Cards seemed to like him better throwing short routes, I think Odunze is a better match.” “I was very impressed with Odunze’s Combine performance. He’s a superior weapon on WR screens. He’s great on contested catches. I‘m not crazy about Harrison’s failure to perform in post season testing. He has talent and should be a great receiver but if they go with Odunze it means they’ve traded down and get one more quality player. Since I don’t see Harrison as having a major edge over Odunze the superior option seems the trade down.”

I still thinks Harrison will become a top receiver, perhaps with a different QB. I recommend patience.

Bit concerning even with a non-Kyler QB that Marv still falls far behind the pecking order to McBride.
speaks to scheme

a good OC would recognize that both Trey and MHJ have gravity that draws coverage to them -- and design routes that force defenses to choose between the two

Brissett isn’t Josh Allen, and McBride is literally the best TE in the NFL, so it’s not a demerit to lose targets to him. It’s losing targets to RBs and other TEs because they’re the checkdown is the real issue

My main criticism of Petzing is the gets overly conservative in the passing game in the 2nd half.

You can't have Marv having 6 catches in the first half and only 1 in the 2nd. And it's not the first time it's happened.

This is a big factor in why the defense has struggled in Q4. Because we stall on offense and give the other team lots of the ball.

Agree with your comments! And when they say “all we need to do is score one more point than the other team “, I’ve become fearful that they literally mean it. Way, way, way too conservative down the stretch & we’ll continue to lose close games with that approach. And by the way, the right side of our OL is brutally bad. Williams and Beachum are BOTH pathetic and need to be replaced ASAP.

I read somewhere that the Cowboys adjusted and were double teaming MHJ. If that indeed was the case then it’s wonderful to see the adjustments as we light it up with McBride and Wilson.

Marvin in his post game interview said the decision to target him early was made just prior to game time

I think the reality was that Gannon got a call from Mike 5 minutes after reading the MH Sr interview

If it took a call from MB to change the game plan, then #FIRECOACHES

As soon as they went away from him, the offense stalled.
