Well what does Leslie Frazer do at the Seahawks? They have a DC, and they have McDonald. Why did Kubiak just hire Mike mcCoy for the same role?
Hackett will have his hands full doing everything an OC does except call plays. I assume as these other teams see a need for an experienced Assistant there there may well be one.

Not getting fired is on everyone's list of priorities, but do you really think it entered Monti's brain for 1 second when making these hires?

Frazier is probably there as an onboarding DC candidate in case their current DC gets snatched up next offseason.
With McCoy, there notably aren’t any other coaches with HC experience in that building. Their OC doesn’t have any OC experience.
This stuff isn’t really hard to connect the dots on m’dude.
Gotta disagree on this one.
if your field only has 32 peak jobs that pay in the tens of millions at times,...when you get one the primary objective is to keep it as long as you can. especially in the current NFL environment where every owner is fiending to find the next hot young talent...the next McVey, etc....keeping the job is primary.... and let us not forget that those HC contracts are guaranteed while the coordinator contracts usually are not...
but the steps involved with keeping said position usually are the same steps involved in winning football games.
The steelers, Ravens, and Patriots have been outliers in keeping coaches very long term...Philly even fired Reid after 4 NFCC games...with Donovan McNabb.....rather than accept that the GM failed to get him the players to get over the hump.
But Andy showed them...then Philly went on a spending spree and bought themselves a title....had they spent that money a decade earlier they may have won 6 or 7 titles
Imagine if Andy had Patrick in Philly...KC traded up to get in front of us... but Philly had the pick right behind us so it would have been an easier trade to make.
But NFL owners get impatient with coaches that do not win....teams that do not win... but its the GM that has the owners ear, sits with him at lunch,..or in the office...not the coach....so the coach pays for the failures until they stack over multiple coaches and the owner gets tired of hearing the same old excuses from his GM
Sparring is good for everyone in almost every profession. Also in the NFL.

Come on man, are we really going to hang "HC experience" on Hacketts 1 year of massive failure? One of the worst HCs in modern history?
I'm happy to lean on Hack as an OC with his experience, but I don't want Mike taking HC advice from him.

You don't think that sometimes, the best way to learn is by failing wildly? I am a "successful" business owner now because I learned what NOT to do in several stops along the way in my career, and have made enough mistakes of my own, to help me the next time a similar situation arose. Just because Hackett wasn't a good head coach, doesnt mean he didnt learn how to impart what NOT to do on others, or even himself.

I talk to my vets about the try/fail cycle and the experience it imbues all the time. I mean, if people in mh recovery just accepted failure as a marker of who they are, no one would ever recover. Just because someone failed as a HC doesn't mean they can't take that experience to help them as an OC.

As well as making them a potentially valuable resource for a HC who perhaps hasnt been in a scenario similar that he needs to navigate. To have a coordinator be able to say, "Ive seen this, heres what I did, and boy howdy was THAT the wrong call" can be a wonderful resource.

If it weren't for failures I wouldn't have any wisdom to pass on to my sons.
I just hope they have a talent for learning from other people's mistakes. Because I certainly did not. It was the hard way or no way for me.
