The Carolina Panthers may be bringing on a familiar face as part of their coaching staff.

According KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson, the Panthers are hiring former safety Mike Adams ahead of the 2026 season. Adams, as later reported by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, will join the team as a Bill Walsh coaching fellow.

Adams, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2004, played two of his 16 pro campaigns for Carolina. He'd start in each of his 33 outings—including the Panthers' wild-card round matchup against the New Orleans Saints in 2017—and amassed 148 combined tackles, six interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

The two-time Pro Bowler already has four years of NFL coaching experience under his belt. Adams served as the assistant defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears in 2021 as well as the assistant special teams coach and assistant secondary coach for the New York Giants between 2023 and 2025.
