Well this is where the rubber hits the road.
History shows we will drop the ball. ML is going to need a like minded OC. Can ML pull a buddy from the Rams staff to jump ship AND would MB be willing to pay that guy?
We also witnessed how important an OL coach is. Again whoever that guy is will need to be in line with ML.
DC. Is Rallis going to be forced on ML? Looking back our defense was ranking high… for 5 games. Was that because of the competition in those first 5 games. Was Rallis strapped by Gannons insistence of limiting blitzes and sticking with a 4 man rush? However, bottom line is ML should get to decide whether to replace him if he wants.

Time for a fresh voice in the locker room for the defense

Let the new coach control the narrative

I think most would agree. However, ML coached and game planned against Rallis. Maybe ML sees things that we don’t. Maybe lack of personnel or injuries? Bottom line IF IF IF ML WANTS Rallis to stay I can live with it. The bad is we will never know if he really wants him or is forced to accept him.

A coach needs his own guys

Bill Parcells' famous quote
is: "If they want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries," meaning those in charge should grant decision-making authority (like player personnel) to the person responsible for the results (the coach)

I don’t know if it has been brought up yet but Gannon now works for Mikes brother in Green Bay. I would imagine he's going to have some intel through his brother and Gannon on what they think Rallis is capable of. He obviously probably has a good handle on him already after game planning against him.

Rallis gave up 45 and 37 points - not sure anyone would be impressed by that.

If I had to make a likely list if he hires from his past,

DC

Aubrey Pleasant
Gus Bradley
Jimmy Lake
Joe Woods

OC

Dave Ragone
Rob Calabrese

OC is harder because a lot of his buddies are already OCs or HCs

If LeFleur is going to call plays, he probably should look at John Benton or Ryan Wendell as his OC/Run game coordinator/OL coach and then give them some OL assistants. Some of that is dependent on staff size tho. Having someone who can ensure your OL development is almost as important as the QB. Similar to what Schottenheimer is doing with Klayton Adams in Dallas.

A first time HC needs an experienced staff - specifically someone who has a lot of NFL experience (HC preferred) to handle the other side of the ball and help with the new responsibilities.

The OC role for ML will be in title only - just like his role with Rams. Not as important IMO
The DC role is VERY important. Would love Weaver.

I agree with the second part. I'm not as worried about someone on his staff having previous HC experience. ML has tons of mentors he can lean on if needed including his brother.

I see the angle, not sure it's great for LeFleur to have a 62 year old first time OC though, even if in name only. He's been in the league since 2003 as an OL coach, if someone thought he had an inkling of OC chops they would have tried it by now?

Yeah I'm firmly against it actually. I don't want Mike being influenced by some no hoper former HC like Gus Bradley.

He's been around several current HCs. If he needs hand holding he shouldn't have got the job.

I'd rather he find the young talent around the league, even if he's never worked with them before.

How did that work out for us the last three years?

KK had much more success and he had VJ.

I think it matters in the NFL.

If it was me, I'd bring in Thomas Brown from the Pats (current passing game coordinator there, former Panthers and Bears OC and Rams running backs coach). Only 39 and considered an up and coming offensive talent. He can handle the run game for Mike and has experience at OC to keep everything running smoothly.

Tee Martin, the Ravens QB coach is another highly regarded option.

For defensive, I'd go with Zach Orr. He's still free after the Ravens cleared house. Or maybe Bobby King from the Eagles.

How did it work for Mike McDonald, Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan?

McVay did have Wade Philips at the start but I never got a whiff it was to hold his hand. He was still a very good DC.

I like the Thomas Brown add as well.
