Letting Allen and Murphy walk was dumb, but those were part of the roster he was building. It’s hard to retain 100% of your top guys, especially when you’re cost constrained in the was we really were that first year.

Yes, Brown was a mistake, but the list of mid-tier players he’s retained is much longer.
Keep 100%? He kept 0%.

Allen was the error (although in fairness, once a player is a UFA there isnt much a GM can do short of a franchise tag)

IIRC: Murphy wasn't coming back as he was unhappy with team docs who mis-diagnosed his back injury
See this is just a Stockholm syndrome excuse for GMs. It is literally a GM’s job to identify talent, analyze how best to acquire/keep that talent, and then deploy the tools at your disposal to convince that talent to remain (money, role, vision for the future, etc). There are almost no free agents that can’t be convinced by some lever. It’s literally the GM’s job to figure that out.

I’ll pass, terrible job. It’s draft day and I’m in the room. Second round has started and I have a WR here with a second round buy. The GM tells me he likes my guy and we’ll get him in the third round. He tells me he has to take this guard because protecting the QB is his top priority. Three picks later my WR goes. We get to round three and he tells me to pick him a winner. I’m thinking we could take that guard you wanted because he’d still be on the board. I recommend a TE with great skills but who’s played for an offense that doesn’t throw to the TE. We take him. He’s missed one game in 4 years of college. He gets a season ending injury in camp and it’s my fault because I called him.
I trust my people. If you tell me to take the receiver in the second I’m going with your recommendation. Why else would I place you in that position? But if you think I won’t trust you, you don’t trust me as a leader, you’re fired, Harry.

this presumes a GM can sign any UFA they want. I dont think thats true as the player gets a vote there.

the error was letting Allen get to UFA. You just cant let players you want to keep get there as it is then out of your control

I heard on the radio that the Athletic came out with a playoff predictor today. According to the predictor, if the Cards to 7-3 they have about a 30% chance of making the playoffs, but if they go 8-2 they have over an 80% chance of making the playoffs. So JG has to get 10 wins or this season is a colossal failure.

I think 5 might be an issue.

I’ve been kicking around this idea that the Cards defense could be really good (like top 5 the rest of the way) after the bye week. Nolen is good as a rotational player, DRob figures it out, Garrett Williams comes back ready to make plays, etc.

I don’t think it would matter much. The running game probably can’t complement that kind of team unless Benson can come back and be more successful and stay healthy after 100 touches.

I don't see it an depending on a rookie to be good after sitting out the whole season so far and contributing is sketchy.

Only chance this team has is if KM comes back and plays at an MVP level.

It’s all a stretch. It’s like depending on multiple 15% outcomes to come through.

But I don’t think is crazy to put Nolen in a pass rush specialist for a dozen plays a game and tell him to split double teams.

Bro I do not know how you can look back at those vids from Gannon’s first day on the job and say this. It’s literally crazy town.
K, that speaks to my original assertion. I do NOT trust Jonathan Gannon for the life of me. He says what people want to hear, and I don't believe him at all to be genuine. All coaches have to master the art of tact and coach speak in order to hold the job down, but ask anyone here in Philly. He's not liked, and that's before the interview fiasco. Did you see the face on Rondale Moore when he made the "you're fast" comment? Talk about grade A pandering and cringe. He's a fraud and I'm gonna stand on that as long as he mans the sidelines for my football team.

I think 9-1 is a minimum to get into the playoffs. And that's WITH a mid NFC. Packers, Lions, and of course Niners, Rams and Seahawks will all be standing in the way.

So when he and Monti flew to Norman, OK for Kyler’s statue ceremony he was just Doing a Bit? Gotta respect the hustle.

Gannon is cringe. But cringe is about being too earnest, not being phony.
