Bout damn time, but another Spidey reboot.. Ugh.

And it's a bit concerning Sony still has the final say on creative control concerns me.

Now Marvel can right Sony's f-up.

That's more of a concession I am sure. It says they have "final" creative control. That wouldn't have been necessary in the language I am sure unless they wanted to make sure they had some resemblance of control and an out should they want to do standalone films again.

Sounds like the development will definitely be Marvel folks since it's bringing it into the fold.

The Next ‘Spider-Man’ Will Go Back to High School

http://variety.com/2015/film/news/spider-man-new-movie-high-school-marvel-1201430231/

Sony is going younger with its next Spider-Man.

Now that Andrew Garfield is hanging up the red and blue spandex, Sony Pictures is getting ready to put out a casting call to find its next web slinger. The plan is for the character to go back to high school in the next films, Variety has learned from sources with knowledge of the studio’s plans.

A number of actors already have been mentioned as being considered for the role, including “The Maze Runner” and “Teen Wolf’s” Dylan O’Brien and the “Percy Jackson” franchise’s Logan Lerman. Lerman most recently co-starred in Sony’s “Fury.”

Sony needs to move fast, since Marvel wants to introduce the new actor playing Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War,” in theaters in 2016, before launching his own solo franchise at Sony in 2017.

Does this mean we'll get Spidey's origin story yet again? Ugh if so.

2 reboots of the same franchise within 10 years of the original series is silly to say the least. They reaaallllyyy need to be careful with this.

One of the coolest theories I've seen yet is to reveal who the actor portraying Spidey is during the scene from Civil War where he reveals his true identity to the public. Although with today's social networking and spoiler sites it would be nearly impossible to keep the casting from the press/public.

They do not need to do an origin story. Just have him interact with the others and he can tell them a quick recap - with or without flashback scenes.

there's no way they're able to keep that secret.

Drew Goddard to Write and Direct SPIDER-MAN Reboot for Marvel and Sony

http://collider.com/spider-man-reboot-director-drew-goddard/

We now know who will usher in the Marvel Studios age of Spider-Man, and it’s none other than The Cabin in the Woods co-writer/director Drew Goddard. Latino Review reports that Goddard has been tapped to write and direct the Spider-Man reboot for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, solidifying the first major piece of the puzzle for this new iteration of one of the most iconic superheroes of all time.

Goddard is not only an excellent choice for this job, but he’s also kind of an obvious one. He already has experience with both Sony and Marvel superhero properties, and has a friendly collaborative relationship with Joss Whedon going all the way back to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, with the two most recently working together on Cabin in the Woods. Goddard was previously attached to direct Sony’s The Sinister Six spinoff film. That movie was to serve as the follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but with Sony now opting to share the character of Spider-Man and come up with a new iteration following that sequel’s disappointing performance, it appears that Sinister Six is being shelved for the time-being.

Good choice IMO. I really like Goddard and it also sounds like Peter will be used which is awesome.

Exclusive: Marvel’s Spider-Man Reboot is NOT an Origin Story

http://www.craveonline.com/film/articles/845723

“In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – [thirteen] years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics,“ Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, told CraveOnline in a one-on-one interview at today’s junket for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“It will not be an origin story,“ Feige continued. “But, with great power comes great responsibility. It is inherent to who his character is. But we want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid in the MCU dealing with his powers.”

Looks Like Asa Butterfield Is The New Spider-Man

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Looks-Like-Asa-Butterfield-Spider-Man-71464.html

With Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War now in production, we knew it was only a matter of time before Marvel Studios finally settled on an actor to sign as their new version of Spider-Man. Well, if new reports are to be believed, it sounds like they may have found their man, as a source is now claiming that Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield has entered into negotiations for the role.

This story comes from known scooper Umberto Gonzalez, who claims to have heard from his sources that Asa Butterfield and his representatives is now sitting down with the comic book movie studio to hash out a deal that could see him become the third live-action version of Peter Parker. No deal has been finalized yet, but the fact that they're at the table is a big sign.

Asa Butterfield's name first entered the mix back in late April, but at that time he was reportedly in consideration alongside Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Liam James, and Timothee Chalamet. Two weeks ago, it was said that the Hugo actor was considered the frontrunner in the group, though it was said Holland was presenting his biggest competition. It seems as though since then they have been able to make a decision.

When thinking about what Marvel Studios has said about their new direction for Spider-Man, Asa Butterfield does make a good amount of sense. They have gone on record saying that they are looking to find a legitimately young actor to play Peter Parker, and Butterfield just turned 18 a month-and-a-half ago (which also happens to mean that he's no longer a minor and can work full days during a movie shoot). The young actor also has the experience of headlining his own projects before, including the aforementioned titles Ender's Game and Hugo.

What? Seems to skinny/tiny to do it unless he has grown a bit since Ender's Game.

Asa Butterfield is out. Search still on for new Spidey. Marvel and Sony unable to agree so far.

Why The New Spider-Man Casting Is Taking So Long

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Spider-Man-Casting-Taking-So-Long-72012.html

Production on Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War has begun, and while the movie has an absolutely stacked cast of Marvel all-stars, there is one key character still missing. It was a few months ago that we learned that Spider-Man would be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the 2016 blockbuster, but to this point the folks in charge of that decision have not yet been able to actually make one. So what's going on? If new reports are accurate, then the key issue is a on-going debate between Marvel Studios and Sony about the direction that the franchise should go in.

This past Friday is was said that long-time frontrunner Asa Butterfield is out of the Spider-Man race, leaving a group of other potential candidates vying for the position, and the folks at Meet The Movie Press say that the reason casting the role has been taking so long is because Marvel Studios' people and Sony's people aren't seeing eye-to-eye on the decision. As such, it's even a little unclear who the new top candidate is because the two companies like two different people. According to the podcast's sources, the folks at the comic book giant like Boardwalk Empire actor Charlie Plummer for the part, while the home of the last two wall-crawler franchises likes The Impossible's Tom Holland.

Tom Holland officially cast as new Spider-Man

New film, directed by Jon Watts, will hit theaters in July 2017

Tom Holland has won the role of Spider-Man. The 19-year-old British actor will shoot Spidey’s webs and don Peter Parker’s glasses for the franchise’s next film, due out in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28th, 2017. Additionally, Marvel and Sony have tagged Jon Watts (Cop Car) to serve as director of the film.

Holland’s previous acting credits include playing the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London, and starring opposite Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in the 2012 tsunami film The Impossible.

His casting makes a lot of sense based on what we know about Marvel’s plans for their tentpole hero. The studio previously said they wanted a Spider-Man young enough to last three to four high school-set solo films awash with “John Hughes humor and emotion.” Holland’s boyish features will likely allow him to play the part through multiple years without appearing to out-age the role. And at 19-years-old, the studios won’t have to deal with the legal limitations on working hours for underaged actors.
