Advocating for the perpetual two steps forward three steps back method of teambuilding seems mad to me. You simply dont get get better by constantly jettisoning your hgigher end talent (I get that its relative, team by team) and replace them with hopes and dreams.
At some point you have to build on a solid foundation. You cant keep taking it back to bare earth. There are better ways to move forward.
I understand that you find this as a valid argument, but it doesn't land for me. They don't need the money, they aren't spending it. They don't need to get young pass rushers reps, they don't really have any. They don't need the picks, they haven't done great with the ones they have had.Sweat is a 29 year old speed rusher that has played about 60% of available snaps in his career.
Sweat isn't a foundation of anything, he's a Edge #2 on a playoff quality team. He's Alex Highsmith but with 15% less snaps.
We have no QB. By the time we have a QB worth anything Sweat will be a 31 years old speed rusher in decline.
Cash in while you can and use that to get the QB we need.
And that's not even factoring in him obviously being unhappy that we sacked the reason he came here and the potential decline that will come with having a guy not giving 100%.

At some point you have to start establishing the credibility of the organization if you want to be able to do anything, be taken seriously by potential free agenst, to not be told by player representation to "not draft my guy" You have to win now. we ESPECIALLY have to win now. When you suck as perpetually as we do, you dont get to play the long game. You have to play for now. Jettisoning talent does not accomplish anything for us.Sweat is a 29 year old speed rusher that has played about 60% of available snaps in his career.

IMO, if they are going to draft a young QB, better to have a pass rusher on the decline who is at least a better than league average to help support that QB than a 3rd round pick that likely will not amount to anything.
I’ll go against the grain a little here and agree with you Brit if the plan is to draft a QB next year.
But how can that be Monti’s long term plan?
He’ll be the one getting sacked if we lose 12 or 13 games again.

As the only proven pass rusher on the team how can you say this? If the Cardinals win any games this year it will most likely be due to Sweat harassing the opposing QB.Josh Sweat is going to make zero difference to how much we win this year.
The team is set up to lose 10+ games. Everyone knows it including the FO.
I’m on your side of the argument, but he does have a point even if sweat helps us win two or three games out of the four or five we might win at most does it really matter in the end? All that does is put us in a range outside of top quarterback selection. As the only proven pass rusher on the team how can you say this? No team has ever lost its way to consistent success. Losing 13 games is cultural poison—part of the reason many here supported Monti’s clear-cutting the roster his first time through.I’m on your side of the argument, but he does have a point even if sweat helps us win two or three games out of the four or five we might win at most does it really matter in the end? Also there’s no chance we get enough draft capital to outbid the Jets anywayThere will be plenty of QBs available in next years draft. Worst case the Cardinals will have to trade up to get their guy. That doesn't mean that the Cardinals need to get rid of their best pass rusher. Sweat still has 3 years on his contract at a very cap friendly rate for a proven pass rusher. He will be in his prime that entire time. There is zero reason to move off of him at this point.
I don't view a 3rd round pick as a critical sticking point to get out of QB purgatory. They didn't need to trade one to get Kyler Murray. They only needed one to move up from 15 to 10 to get Josh Rosen. You can make an argument that saddling a rookie with a bad roster is one of the reasons the Cardinals have been in QB purgatory. This also plays into the fallacy that you have to be the worst team in a draft to find a QB. Several good NFL QBs were not the first QB drafted in their draft or were not drafted 1 overall. They do need the picks.
The Browns and Jets both have multiple 1st round picks. We have no QB. We need all the capital we can get to make sure we get out of quarterback purgatory. Nothing else concerns me.
Certainly not hanging on to a 29 year old disgruntled speed rusher that averages 8 sacks a year and plays 60% of the snaps and didn't do anything of note on the 29th ranked defense. I really couldn't care less if he stayed or went. But given our QB situation I'd rather get the capital.

Well, if we finish #1, we won't have to![]()
?It would have to be at least a 2025 pick. If it’s a top team (likely), I’d need a first which seems very unlikely.
