Is RM a SunDevil? If he passes a physical, it sounds like he'll be the new head coach at ASU...I like this hire WAY more than hiring Dixon, who carried on a good program, but never showed he could build a program.

The only thing Majerus will be able to build in Tempe is a mountain of pancakes and a collection of porn. I put the over/under on this moron's tenure at ASU at 18 months.

They should've hired Bennett who's a solid coach and actually wants to build ASU into a winner for the long haul.

ASUDevils.com is reporting that the Sun Devils have found their next coach and it is Rick Majerus.

There are still issues, however, to be resolved but ASUDevils.com has the complete story on what needs to take place before Majerus officially comes to Tempe.

Majerus has never had a losing season as a coach...So take that fact as you will.

Majerus won't be in it for the long haul at ASU, but who cares? 3-5(maybe more) solid years at ASU from Majerus will turn the coaching position into a "wanted" coaching job...Majerus will turn it into a winning program, that recruits want to come to...He'll also bring $$$ to ASU, which at the end of the day is what athletic directors want from their football and basketball programs need...

Some of Majerus' infractions include, buying a player a bagel the night that the kid's father died(and then staying up all night with the kid, while the kid waited for the flight); or buying a pizza to split with a player(which would have been legal, if it was delivered or picked up instead of dining in); Or giving each player $10 to catch the flick "Remember the Titans"(I think it was that movie?) etc, etc,...

Rick Rilley had a great article about it in Sports Illustraded a few years back...If you're too lazy to find the article, then I'll see if I have the time to track it down...Furthermore, If my son was thinking about playing for this guy, then I'd be proud to have RM coach my son.

You beat by a few minutes with the same story. The guy is a cheater. It's more than just a bagel.

In my opinion this is not a good hire. ASU could of done better. They should of gone after a young guy like Bennett or Turgeon. I hate to say this but I would not be surprised if he had a heart attack during a game. The guy is grossly out of shape. Opposing coaches will use his health problems to persuade future recruits to look somewhere else.

I certaionly wouldn't send my kid to play for a foul-mouthed gluttonous pervert who pays off his kids and bends every rule in the book. And I'd really love it if my kid's former coach spread false rumors about him if he decided to leave school early.

Stupid is spelling Olson wrong. I am glad ASU hired him because they could of definitely hired a young and energetic guy who can get a program going. Even Kruger would of been a better choice.

Funny. You actually trust an the article whose only source seems to be Fatjerus himself over an actual NCAA investigation which resulted in serious punishment.

And you can equate Stoops to Majerus all you want. But unlike Majerus, Stoops has never been punished by the NCAA for recruiting violations or giving money to his players.

Reilly's column was written a year-and-a-half before the Deseret Morning News article.

Rick Reilly is a humorist who has also written fawning articles about other upstanding citizens like Bill Romanowski.

Personally, I give more credibility to a legitimate news story than a puff piece that was probably researched in less than a week.

Let's be honest.... the NCAA has put teams on probation for ridiculous things over the years. This is hardly anything I would call a "dirty program". It just seems to me that you have some personal hatred toward the man and could care less about his baseketball acumen

They're one and the same. The biggest reason I don't like Rick Majerus is because he doesn't run a clean program and is a complete a-hole. Anyone who follows college sports knows those things are NCAA violations and a head coach obviously knows better in spite of his embarassing pleas of ignorance. The Andrew Bogut and USC fiascos are even more of an indictment on why I don't like the guy. I can easily admit that he can coach (see earlier this thread) but that doesn't mean I have to like the guy or think he's a good fit at ASU.

Hey, but what do I care? You guys are the one looking at the death penalty should you get into any more trouble with the NCAA and Lute (and Howland and Romar) is still the better coach and recruiter and is in better health than Majerus. Have fun for the next 18 months until Rick puts ASU back on probation and himself back up to four bills.
