I would not be shocked by 1 or 2 veterans signed after May 7. Keim always says he is looking for upgrades, at this point with $30+ million in dead cap they have to look for bargains.

i think brown is a player keim will tyarget for july

then i would expect some good addition of the offensive line after the cuts, or by trade

we must do something in that area, murray success require an adequate line

I would love to get Veldheer back.

I was thinking the same thing but only if they think he can play OG. He was a great get for the first couple of years but then his OT skills started to fade.

Any free agents signed after May 7—the second Tuesday after the draft—won’t count against a team’s comp pick formula.

Any ideas of what remaining players out there in FA the Cards might be able to get on cheap 1 year deals?

Great thread, Zeno. In large part this is the squad they will go to war with, but I think it’s safe to say that Keim will add some pieces leading up to the season.

What would you do? I think offensive line and edge rusher are the biggest need. I don’t really see any quality tackle backups, and Keim should know better than most how important that is. I’m sure that, especially, Korey Cunningham and Joshua Miles are huge talents, but I would be hesitant to bank on them already.

It’s the same with the edge rushers, and that might be an even bigger need since you rotate edge rushers all the time. I mean, Suggs might be very good, but he’s also 36, so I wouldn’t count on him playing a huge amount of snaps, and right now Brooks Reed is the only alternative. I just think that’s too risky. Earlier today I actually had this thought that they could trade Patrick Peterson straight up with Jadeveon Clowney who are both rumored to be potentially being traded. No, don’t listen to that. It was just a wild thought for a second.

Regarding offensive tackles I must say that I hope someone good will become available when teams start to release players, because I really don’t think the free agent pool is very enticing.

Jordan Mills was one of the Bills’ starting offensive tackles for the past three seasons. It’s not that he has been very good, but as a backup swing tackle I don’t think it would a bad option.

Joe Barksdale could be brought back. I probably think this is the best option.

TJ Clemmings has had many injuries in his career, but when healthy he is a viable swing tackle.

With the edge rusher-pool I think there could be some intriguing options.

Shane Ray was with Vance Joseph in Denver, and reportedly the Cardinals had interest in him in the 2015 draft.

Ezekiel Ansah is pretty injury prone, but when he is healthy he is a very dangerous edge rusher.

Derrick Morgan was really good in 2016 and 2017 before he saw his snap count cut down last season because he didn’t play that well – and probably also to make room for their new rookie, Harold Landry.

Personally, I wouldn’t have a problem with bringing Sam Acho to camp.

Inside linebacker is probably a need as well, especially when they are switching to three linebackers on the field at the same time, but also because of the depth.

I think Zach Brown is a good linebacker and with his speed and athleticism I think Vance Joseph could deploy him in all defensive systems.

If I am the Cardinals, here is who I am signing.

Donald Penn - OT (I need a guy who can play LT. I need a vet who understands a role)
Bennie Logan - DT (I need a guy who can play NT so I can move Peters as needed)
Brent Urban - DE (Another 3-4 guy who can rotate and has been on winning teams)
Andre Branch - OLB (An athletic guy who has never played standing up. Lotto pickup.)

That is it. If there is a really good, special teams LB I would get him as well. All pretty good character dudes who should be ok with being signed to fill specific backup roles vs being starters.

Maybe I sign a guy like Spencer Ware to fill out the RB room.

I think they will only have about $5 Million left after the rookie salary cap pool. Spotrac shows them $18M under the cap with a projected rookie salary cap pool of $13M. Dead money is now at $30M which includes $8M to Josh Rosen. Not much left for free agents.

Anyone remember when a good lot of this board was clamoring for Chance Warmack during the 2013 draft?
