I just joined the Twitter community yesterday and my main reason for it was to be connected to the Cardinals Universe. Please add me as a follower and I will do same for you!

Go Cardinals!

Twitter question for you experts:

When I send a tweet out does it:

1. Only go to my followers
2. Goes to my followers and the people I follow
3. Answers 1 & 2 plus the entire Twitter community.

Thanks,
Tim

Timmy - when you find out, please fill us all in on how Tweets, #Hashmarks, numerical text addresses and other Twitter and Face Book, privacy setting protocols work.

I've been very happy thus far with web sites, forums and e-mail, but do suspect that roughly 40% of the cyber-world is passing me by.

Thanx.

The tweet will go to the people following you.

They can then "retweet" it to all of the people following them.

Hashtags are used to collect data about trending topics.

For example: If I tweet - "Geno Smith is a second round QB." It will only go to my followers.
If I tweet: "Geno Smith is a second round QB. #SmithSucks" then other people start tweeting #SmithSucks in their tweets the topic starts "trending".

Trending topics have their own section (usually on the left side of the twitter home page). You can click on the topic and see all posts that include the "#SmithSucks" hashtag.

Trending topics change constantly. Currently they are....
Trends · Change
#15factsaboutme
#MentionPerfection
#20FactsAboutMyBestfriend
#SexySaturday
#WhenIWasLittle

So if I tweet "I like butter #15factsaboutme" and then click on the trending topic, my tweet will be there for the whole world to see.

Also, unless you make your tweets private then anyone can also see your tweets by going to your profile page or searching for a term that you used in your tweet.

Twitter is where I receive almost 100% of my sports news. Even if you don't participate (tweet), it's still incredibly valuable to build a customized feed where you're essentially receiving all information from people you deem relevant. It's almost a must have for a sports fan.

Step by step, how do you set this up?

As mentioned, you don't even need to tweet anything. If youbare following the people listed above (and you'll find more), Twitter is #1 for breaking news. Help a brother out at @dylan_wanagiel thanks.
