Absolutely correct. Simmons is a better version of Oso. If we could sign Simmons, I would try to trade Oso, O Neale, and Richards for picks. Late first, seconds, something. Some sort of future draft compensation.
Though clearly flawed, Ben was a superstar early in his career but he's been nothing close to that since he missed the 21/22 season due to a back injury. I haven't paid attention to him in years but looking at his stats and his ever present injury problems, I see no reason to chase him.

If he falls into our laps with a minimum price tag, it might be a worthwhile gamble. But that's a big "might be". Odds are, he would drive us crazy too. Let the Knicks, Celtics, Kings or whoever sign him, they deserve a little more misery. Stay with Dunn. I think Ben is still slightly more impactful than Dunn was his rookie year but I like Ryan's potential future over Ben's.

Because Simmons is a point guard and Oso is not. How can you determine if a player is broken at age 29?
I think he is broken but yeah, who knows for sure. But still, the fact he makes Beal look like an iron man should give us pause. Despite his frequent injures, Beal has played 8,000+ minutes more than Simmons has during the same time period.

My thought is Simmons would add versatility to the Suns plus of course his passing skills, but I'm not locked onto the idea.

Jordan Ott would have to feel Simmons would fit well with the team and they can bring the best out of him with a nurturing environment.

It would feel a lot like when the Suns added Chris Paul, except with a lot more question marks.

im not trying to nurture simmons cuddle or walk around on eggshells around with simmons - he's on some weirdo rap - vibe is everything on the court - energy feeds off energy - when energy is that whack it's no wonder the clippers didn't want him back

if ish signs simmions it'll erase all the good ish he's done last couple months
Choice. Spend $30 million per year on Kuminga, with at least a three year commitment, or spend the minimum or close to it on Simmons with team friendly options. I choose Simmons.

By watching him play (where he’s been a non factor)… and not play for the last four years. There’s a reason he’s now just bounced around the league since 2021.

I haven't followed Simmons much of late, but if it's true the Suns are interested in him, I'm thinking they have a reason and a plan.

The Clippers signed Beal so there is that.

The Suns would have to think they can bring out the best in him if they have interest. Why, I'm not sure.

It's not a player I would have thought about otherwise.

If those were our only two options, I'd agree. But he's not going to sign with us for close to the minimum, he's got too many suitors for that to happen IMO. If we do sign him, I'd predict the greatest impact we'd see from that signing was that it kept us from pursuing Kuminga. Fortunately, we can still opt to avoid both players which is what we should be doing. No more headcases, no more injury riddled players, no more me first stars.

I don’t see how bringing in Simmons would be a lot like when we brought in CP3 in almost any way, shape or form. CP3 brought a career full of floor raising and had literally just come off a season where he did the same with OKC. The only question CP3 brought when we traded for him was how long he could still be a very good PG.

Ben Simmons brings almost nothing but questions… most of which have terrible answers in the last four years, where his game has not only fallen off a cliff, if he even makes it to the court because of a myriad of injuries/mental health questions, while being a problem child off it. He’s the anti-CP3.

Chris Paul will sign with the Clippers. It's a 1 year, $3.6 million contract.

Maybe the Suns are set with scouting, but a move like this would have solidified they are going in the right direction.

Go back and read the threads about acquiring CP3. There were a lot more questions than that.
You're right, there were. But those "questions" weren't on the same level as the questions surrounding Simmons are.

I can’t believe people are trying to compare the two situations. CP3 was SECOND TEAM ALL-NBA when we traded for him. Ben Simmons is an NBA afterthought. The only question with CP3 was how much longer he could play at a high level and mild injury concerns. All Ben Simmons brings is questions on and off the court.

I'd be fine with taking a flyer on Simmons. It's not like the Suns have a lot of attractive options. Maybe Simmons can't handle the pressure of being on a contending team, but the Suns would not present that problem. Realistically, players who do not care about winning are a good fit for the Suns these next few years.

"Can he hold up, will he commit, can he still be productive, will he be a cancer". Definitely different as more was on the line then but I think they were similar in nature if not degree.
