Mikal Bridges is now an NBA champion.
After coming up short with the Phoenix Suns in 2021, Bridges won an NBA title with the New York Knicks, who eliminated the San Antonio Spurs with a Game 5 road win, 94-90, on June 13, winning the 2026 NBA Finals, 4-1.
Bridges became the first player from that 2020-21 Suns NBA Finals team to make it back to a championship series.
The Suns lost to the Milwaukee Bucks, 4-2, in the 2021 NBA Finals, after winning the first two games.
Two years later, Phoenix traded Bridges, a fan favorite among Suns fans, to the Brooklyn Nets in the blockbuster Kevin Durant deal before the 2023 trade deadline.
The Nets dealt Bridges to the Knicks in acquiring five first-round picks in the summer of 2024.
Bridges posted 14 points and four assists in the Game 5 clincher, helping to lead the Knicks to an NBA championship for the first time since 1973, with Bridges a starter and key contributor on both ends.
Knicks reserve guard Landry Shamet also played for the Suns for two seasons (2021-23), joining the team the season after the NBA Finals appearance. He was part of their franchise-best 64-win season in 2021-22.
Shamet shot 11-of-12 from 3 in the Eastern Conference finals in helping the Knicks sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers and reach the finals for the first time since 1999.
