NEW YORK – In a 3-for-28 slide, Cody Bellinger is getting a rest from Tuesday night’s Yankees starting lineup against Tigers ace lefty Tarik Skubal.
“He’s played almost every single game. Nothing I’m too concerned about,’’ said manager Aaron Boone, wanting to give Bellinger a break, allowing him to reset.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. plans to be available off the bench; he’s not in Tuesday’s lineup, after leaving Monday’s game following a collision with Jasson Dominguez (both were in pursuit of a pop fly to shallow right field).
There’s “a little bit of soreness where I got hit. Other than that, I’m pretty good,’’ said Chisholm, who had passed all concussion protocol test, with one more to go before the 7:08 p.m. game.
Chisholm absorbed Dominguez left elbow to the right side of his head, and the hard contact with the ground didn’t help matters.
Dominguez felt he should have called for the ball in a louder voice than he did, another misstep in a 7-3 loss - extending the Yanks' losing streak to five.
“I definitely didn’t hear him,’’ said Chisholm, replaced at second base by Jose Caballero on Tuesday, with Max Schuemann in left field and lefty-hitting Spencer Jones in center.
So, tonight it's Yankee sophomore sensation Cam Schlittler going against Skubal, the two-time defending AL Cy Young Award winner, and probably the most intriguing name as the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline nears.
