NEW YORK - Austin Wells could be an option for the Yankees by Monday night at Detroit, or sooner.

On a minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the lefty-hitting catcher has been on the 10-day injured list since June 6 due to cervical headaches.

After he plays Friday night, “we’ll figure out moving forward’’ what the rest of the weekend plan is for Wells, said manager Aaron Boone.

Also, lefty starter Max Fried (bone bruise, left elbow) conducted his latest bullpen session Friday at Yankee Stadium, and he might be about a month away from returning to the Yanks’ rotation.

Here in the Bronx tonight, it’s Cam Schlittler (7-3, 1.82) making his 16th start of the year for the Yanks, opposing Cincinnati Reds righty Rhett Lowder (3-3, 4.60).

Ben Arroz, No. 21

After the Jazz solo shot to start the second inning, Lowder issues two walks, gets two outs and yields a three-run homer by Ben Rice - his team-leading 21st of the year.

Rice connects on a 1-1 fastball and sends it an estimated 433 feet over the center field wall.

That gives Schlittler a 4-0 lead heading into the third inning. Both Rice and Schlittler should easily represent the Yanks at next month's All-Star Game, and Cody Bellinger could make it a trio of Yankees in Philly.

Jazz is OK

In his first at-bat Friday night, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has drilled a homer to right for a 1-0 Yanks lead in the second inning.

This was a drastically different at-bat than his last time up Thursday, when Jazz fouled off a fourth-inning pitch that bounced up and struck him in a sensitive area - causing him to leave the game.

Earlier today, Jazz said he wouldn't change his ways; he's never worn an athletic supporter in a game and isn't about to start now.

Anyway, Jazz connected on an 0-1 changeup for his 11th homer of the season. He already has 20 steals, coming off last year's 30-30 season.
