Why should Gannon survive Monday?

On 92.3's Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos yesterday, they had a football segment with Paul Calvisi (sideline reporter for the Cards). They asked him about Gannon being fired and he said "Absolutely no chance of that happening. Coach isn't going anywhere. It's not his fault the team was ravaged by injuries."
Any media associated with the team is near unbearable to watch/listen/read right now. The injuries is not a valid excuse in year 3 of a rebuild. Guess what this is the nfl - don’t tell me the niners haven’t had it worse and they still are competitive and blowing us out of the water with superior coaching.

Calvisi just selling bidwill propaganda- along with the other talking heads that are clearly in bidwills pocket in local media.

If they cut him instead of trading him then no teams are interested. They will have to do K1 and a 3rd round pick for a 5th rounder at that point. Which is not out the question to get rid of him. Brock Osweiler style.
There will be substantial interest.

Even if JG stays, there has to be some change with the staff. OC / DC, OL coach and DL coach are at the top of the list with serious questions why they should stay. Low hanging fruit is the OL coach right now.

I had the same thoughts but then said so everybody goes except JG.
Better off can the whole bunch and let the new coach pick his staff.

I don't really disagree with your position however here is where reality sets in. Finding a new HC probably wouldn't be too hard, however considering names that have either turned down Bidwill or used him as leverage for another job is historically well known. We would probably end up with someone similar to GANNON that would be just as inexperienced as he is. Now maybe if you could persuade someone from the Dan Campbell staff you may hit there.

Additionally here is your choices for FA QBs in 2026. It's a who's who of nobodies and and moldy oldies. Maybe outside of Mariota, who I think is equivalent to Brissett, I don't see any of them being an upgrade. Jones has a torn Achilles, so his availability has taken a hit. As for the draft, with the current condition of our Oline, I wouldn't want to see a rookie exposed to that abuse from the get go. And there is no one in the draft that looks like a day one starter. Maybe the combines end up elevating someone but then you have to trade away a lot to move up high enough to grab him.

  • Daniel Jones (Colts)
  • Aaron Rodgers (Steelers)
  • Russell Wilson (Giants)
  • Marcus Mariota (Commanders)
  • Joe Flacco (Bengals)
  • Trey Lance (Chargers)
  • Kenny Pickett (Vikings)
  • Zach Wilson (Dolphins)
  • Malik Willis (Packers)
What are your thoughts on Malik Willis?

Kind of an intriguing prospect. He's had several years to sit behind Love and learn and considering how Love has developed you would like to think that Willis has been getting the same coaching as Love. In his starts in 2024 I don't think he was asked to do too much however that said, he did perform reasonably well. In Tennessee he was thrown in before he was ever ready. He could be gotten on the cheap. It will be interesting to see how badly GB wants to keep him.

WC, when I see the Colts signing 144 year old Phillip River, the Broncos spending a gazzilion dollars on Wilson and then another team takes him off their hand s and yet another team takes him, I got to believe there’s a market out there for Kyler. I think we can get something for him and maybe more. Remember we suffer from KMS.

If Kyler was making half what he makes, then there would be some sort of market.

The requirement to cut him within 5 days of the new year just means we have so little leverage

Several articles have indicated that if the Cards pay ~$30M towards KM's contract, it would make a trade much more palatable.

That’s 5 day is not the calendar year, it’s the NFL year and that’s sometime around the 12th of March.

Um no. That’s not what it means at all. K1 dictates this and his contract has a massive bonus after the season.

He will be cut for sure.

Exactly, Cards fans are dilulu if teams aren’t salivating at the chance to see if they can make K1 a winner.

Haha, yeah, no. He'll either go to a QB-starved team that just needs to gamble on a starter or he'll have to go the Darnold/Mayfield/etc path and rebuild his career. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is going "Ooh, we can get KM? Score!"

His only shot at salvaging a career and becoming good enough to actually win anything is to change his entire approach to the game. I don't think the clueless kid has it in him to do that.

You just agreed with me without knowing you did. It doesn't matter the reasons why, it means no team is willing to trade for him. Weather it his play, his contract, or his attitude.

Don't matter either way if he's not traded nobody wanted to make the trade. Because it's obviously in the best interest of the cards to trade him cap wise

But what QB starved team is willing to give up draft capital and a lot of money to gamble? Unless it was someone like Atlanta who traded away their first round pick. But even still a team like that might be willing to gamble on a vet and second or third round pick.

We're a QB starved team and we're not interested.

The Vikings will sign him in a heartbeat and be NFC favorites for doing so.
