Upset? I'm thrilled, Carpenter has already beaten him once for a job, and I expect him to do it again.

I dont mean upset about the signing, I mean your comment above how people thought you werte an idiot for wanting competition. I dont think anyone thought that. Was just a defensive stance and I was letting stating noone is attacking.

That is all.

May the best man win.

Many people stated that it wasn't worth a thought, clearly it was.

Sheesh!! Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for problems. Why would anyone want to replace a veteran used to the pressure with a unproven kid? As long as Feely is kicking on par with what he did last season, don't mess with success.

Looks like BASK doesn't totally agree with you. But then the guy they brought in is a 5 year veteran so not an unproven kid.

Feely is 37 years old so maybe they want to give him some rest during the preseason. :p

People act like his short kickoffs don't matter. There's a big difference between starting at your own 30 and your own 20. You're just giving away free yards.

Yep. I never understand why instead of keeping a player that never gets a snap active, why not have a guy on the team who's only job is to kick it out the back of the end zone every time? That would have a much greater impact.

First I have ever heard of him getting a free pass. Most people figured he was in there so much because he was being heavily evaluated by Arians. Every coach wants to have a kicker that wins games for him. Doesn't matter how well you did for the previous coaching staff. To this point Feely has won nothing for Arians yet...and his future is very much up in the air.

Every coach wants to have a kicker to wins games?

Would you also say that every coach wants to score more points than the other team?

Not a shocker that after Feely missed that 30 yarder against the Cowboys that Arians brings in competition. Accountability, wanting to win and a message sent to Feely and the entire team.

Last year the Cards gave up a 23 yd return average which was good for 16th in the league. Carpenter with the Dolphins gave up a 27 yd average which put them/him 29th in the league.

Feely had TB's exactly 50% of the time and Carpenter's was in the 45% range.

Feely finished 8th in % of TB's to KO's.

If Feely was the suckage you propose then maybe but I would much prefer a decent KO and another true FB player who can help the team.

I think Feely is going to get cut and he already knows it.

No semi-legit kicker, who has other options, is going to pick coming to AZ unless there is a real chance of unseating the incumbent kicker.

According to Profootball-Reference.com the Cards gave up 26.4 yards per return. Maybe you got the numbers mixed up because 23 is what PFR shows for the Cardinals on their kick returns. They also show the Dolphins with a 27 ypr average for them and their opponents at around 24. Or it could be PFR is wrong. I searched for quite awhile and couldn't find a ranking for average kick return yards allowed. I'll bet K9 has 4-5 sites in his pocket that have that stat along with things like kick return yards allowed after beer sales have been stopped and other cool stuff like that.

Yep, double checked my numbers and you are correct. The Cards gave up 26.4 yds per KO return. The Dolphins gave up 24.8.

Thanks for the correction and pretty much ignore the stats I posted previously.

I've done that too. Looked at the stats wrong and posted the opponents numbers as ours. :D

Well if Feely is cut (I doubt), BA is making a huge mistake IMO in keeping Carpenter over him!

Good call...

Carpenter got cut. Didn't last a week.

#azcardinals cut K Dan Carpenter. heard he didn't kick well in practice this week, had FG block vs. Chargers. Feely retains the job.

Ha, my original statement was they bring in competition, and may the best man win. *Arguably* a good call.

Glad you took a break from embarassing yourself on the ASU board!

Your exact words below:

Upset? I'm thrilled, Carpenter has already beaten him once for a job, and I expect him to do it again.

The exact words I'd use also as an example of "arguably".....

Again, good call....

Glad you took a break from embarassing yourself on the ASU board!

BIM: embarrassing

I don't recall "embarrassing myself" anywhere, but if I must, I'll gladly accept the ASU board instead of embarrassing myself across all forums of the MB. ;)
