Disagree. He gains a pipeline of young, upside potential having QBs to keep his room stocked while they wait for their shot at a nice payday. I don't think they have to be successful to ensure the supply keeps flowing.
How? Any young player is drafted. That supply is there year after year.

The only way that I pay that money to Willis is if LaFleur's brother, Matt, vouches for him. Without the brotherly trust in Matt LaFleur's belief that Willis can be a mid starting QB, I don't pay the money to Willis. I assume that if the Cardinals are in on the bidding for Willis, then Matt has in fact counseled Mike to go for it.
Yeah,....because as dude never played his little brother for a sucker just for laufgs.... I had 3 older brothers... nope...they never did it to me at all. Never once. Not even that time,...well.... or that time I...uh....
But Laflower brothers don't do it...right?

i think directionally this is correct -- but $10mm is too low. Justin Fields got $20mm, Daniel Jones got $14 -- thats 20 and 21st overall, just above the rookies

to me, its less about average per year (within reason) and more about can you exit without undue pain after 2 years.

the benefit of Willis is that you should know by the end of 2026 if he works. IF he does work, then the team found their guy. If he doesnt, it likely means the record puts the Cards in the running for one of the 2027 QBs.

Both those guys were top 10 picks that started dozens of games.

Malik Willis is a flame out failure who was traded for a 7th and started 3 games in 2 years.

Do you remember Tommy DeVito in 2023? Went 3-3 for a bad Giants team. Had a 3 game stretch in there where he threw 5 TDs, no INTs, won all 3 games against the Packers, Commanders and Pats, and Giants fans were hailing him as the future. He was all over football media. Then he sucked again, has barely played since. You are basing the WIllis projections on less than that.

I'd rather send a low round pick for Spencer Rattler, who showed far more as a rookie than Willis has in his 4 years.

My point is, if young project QBs sitting in the #2 slot in the Packers QB room keep getting signed away for large contracts, other young #2/3 QBs will come calling looking to replicate that. That gives GB a steady flow of potential at the backup QB position, which is the best you can hope for as a team.

And I dont believe that that the QBs vying for that role will stop solely because the previous guy didnt actually blow up when given his shot. They'll keep coming just because they want THEIR shot, and theyll believe it'll turn out differently for them.

Creating that pipeline is paramount, so it behooves the coach to keep it moving.

Jimmy Garoppolo will be the week one starter.

However, if I had to make a wild guess, I would buy C.J. Stroud for the #3 pick and Kyler Murray, and I think I can make an okay case for it.

- Stroud is up for an extension this offseason, but has he really played well enough to warrant a giant contract? If sold, I think it would be fair for a new team to wait a year or two.

- The Texans’ head coach (Demeco Ryans), and offensive coordinator (Nick Haley) have played against Murray multiple times, and their defensive coordinator (Matt Burke) has seen Murray at practice and weekdays for a year. Those things can also work against Murray, though.

- Kyler Murray is a major star in that area of Texas. Absolute legend.

- If Bidwill spoke the truth that Gannon was only fired because of wins and losses, then Ossenfort is under heavy pressure to win now.

- Ossenfort cannot get a quality QB in other ways than a bigtime trade. And he cannot win enough without a quality QB.

- If the Cards finish high enough to pick a rookie quarterback in 2024, Ossenfort’s gone.

- Marvin Harrison was a stud the year he played with Stroud.

Again, I don’t think it will happen, but I do think that Ossenfort needs to think about making some big move.
I noticed yesterday that Todd McShay also confirmed my guess (I think Albert Breer was the first), stating that teams have inquired about Stroud, and that he potentially could be dealt.

You could actually argue that Stroud would be a downgrade from Murray, based on Stroud's performance last season (Kurt Warner even called him the worst QB in the NFL), but he obviously showed All-Pro level only a couple of years ago, so the potential is clearly there. Also, Murray upside with specifically the Cardinals is non-existing, I think.

They will get a 4th round pick from Jets for Murray.

Sign Malik Willis as FA, with his connection to coach Mike's brother in GB playing a factor

Jacoby Brissett is a backup QB as evidenced by his 1-11 record as a starter in 2025.

Might snag a QB in third round too.
I’m all for taking two QBs.

That’s a fine idea, but where do you see the Cards picking next year? It’s likely low enough they might have to give 3 numbers ones to get a top guy. That’s likely not even enough to get Manning. Everyone looks at 2027 as the holy grail. Until it plays out there may be only 3 QBs worth having and 7 teams wanting them. We need to stop thinking of 2027 being a sure thing. They could easily end up with another Rosen. I’d rather take a chance on Willis and if he bombs the Cards are actually in a better spot to trade. 2 chances to win instead of 1.
I do t love that idea. I don’t want to bear Willis’ contract if we are just going to turn around and draft a QB next year. I’d rather prep for that eventuality by going with Brisset, trading down three times this year and rack up as many assets in next years draft and then stink next year and have a ton of assets to trade up if necessary to get the QB of our choosing.

I agree with the exception of us stinking next year. I do believe we will suck but what if Monti actually fixes the Oline and Dline. JB can get us 7 to 9 wins,....never mind.
My main point was that all Monti has to do is trade back with a team that will suck this season and then we will be in position to get our qbotf.

Based on an article I recently read, I think the Cardinals will move away from a dual threat type QB altogether and instead go with a prototypical pocket passer who can sit in the pocket and take a hit when necessary. I expect Brissett will still be on the roster, with us adding someone like Cousins to be the starter & drafting a bigger QB somewhere in the 3rd-4th round. When asked what he prefers, LaFleur said he likes “tough” QB’s that can sit in the pocket and find his receivers.

Do you think maybe we signed a QB coach in the hopes of going after Will Levis or someone like him and/or drafting a project QB (Nussmeire, Beck, Allar, or Klubnik)?
