Yes. I’m on record as preferring someone like Allar in the 3rd or 4th and seeing how it goes until next year. Unless we can get Mendoza of course.
3rd or 4th would be too high for Allar. He's garbage. It's not like he didn't have talent around him at PSU. The only favorable traits he has are that he's big and has a strong arm. But he's bad at playing QB.

This is an (not the) Ohio State take. He isn't garbage. He had talent around him, and he started strong. Like many QBs under Franklin, he started strong and tailed off. Franklin was poison to developing QBs. I'd say 3rd-4th round is just about right.

Allar is one of the few QB's I've seen in the regular season. Could TOTALLY get on board with 3rd or 4th rd.

He came to PSU with a ton of potential and left on a whimper. I have very little respect for Franklin the coach, so I’m probably open to this option. Not sure I’d waste a 3rd, but 4th-5th is more like it.

Harsh Reality.
Brissett is our starter heading into next year. Why?

1. We are not going to mortgage future draft picks to move up Mendoza. Never.
2. Right or wrong We are never going to spend 20m on a guy like Willis.
3. This front office hopefully build a top notch o - line and add a quality RB even in Connor can return. And if he can he’s not getting 10m. It would be incentive filled contract.
4. Even if we maneuver to get Simpson late in the first round or draft a guy like Nuhieser( sp?) or Allar or whoever they will not be our starting qb.

Seeing what Brissett did this year I think MO feels he could be better than average with a stronger o/line and run game.

To be clear, before you start firing shots, this is just how I see it and not saying it’s the way we should go. A lot can change with just how much of an influence the new head coach desires.

I have a dream.
Raiders do Raiders thing and draft Moore.
Jets wanted Moore and panic into swapping picks with us and all we have to give them is KM.
We take Mendoza and he becomes Joe Montana.
Our new HC is a winner and has hired excellent coordinators.

Hey gang. What about Drew Allar in the 4th? All I keep hearing is what a great prospect he was and his coach was a Qb killer.
Big boy. Big arm.
Just asking.
Just NO!!!! He's not any good. He'll have measurables but he's just not any good. I wish he was.
Plus, I don't like when people do this, but when was the last good QB to come out of PSU? Kerry Collins?????

Allard is not going to all of a sudden become a better QB at the NFL level. He's been bad for years.

I'm pretty set on Beck. A few weeks ago, a lot of knowledgable draft analysts had him in late 3rd/4th round. If he continues to win, he is going to be an early 2nd round pick at a minimum and will probably end up as a first rounder.

I know a lot of you give me reasons why he won't but I keep reverting to the fact that he is 12 months removed from a Tommy John surgery, he's played in the biggest games, he is like 14-3 against ranked opponents. He is going to be a good pro.

I would leave this up to the new coach. I do not trust Monti. If the coach thinks he can work with Kyler, that would be my quarterback. Kyler would have had a winning record with a different offensive coordinator other than Petzing. If he does not want Kyler, which is very likely I would either sign a free agent that the new coach likes or draft a possible future quarterback in the third round.

My first pick would be Jeremiyah Love. Kyler lost his top two running backs in the first two weeks. That changed everything. Along with no offensive line. I would draft the best offensive lineman I could find in the 2nd round that can also become the violent leader of that group. I would also add the best offensive lineman could find on the free agent market. The rest of the draft BPA. We need help everywhere.

This should fix our running game and our passing offense should be just fine with either Kyler or Brissett if Harrison can get some testerone injections.

Of course if Mendosa can be had, he is my first choice. Otherwise pass on quarterbacks, especially the Alabama guy.

Every time I've watched Allar, I always come away with the same thought - he couldn't hit water if he fell out of the boat. So inaccurate. No touch. Seems lost.

I did like what I saw from Beck. Besides Mendoza, he looks like a pro qb profile; one of few in this draft. He is sensitive tho, to what people think and pro football is pretty brutal. He has the height, frame, arm, skill. The LSU qb is physical, but Beck is a better passer. He likely goes in round 1. If he has a 5 INT game again, then he goes later. Indiana has good D. His stock gets judged on that game.

I'll have my popcorn out and watching to see how he does. There were times I thought he checked down but Miami receivers were not getting open so I liked the idea that he was conservative, especially with their running game. I don't think they will run like that against Indianna but against Oregon, they may be able to.

Rather take Drew Allar at 34 than Simpson at 3.

Allar has better tools...and everyone is overlooking that disaster of a QB killer he had as a coach...
I mean come on...what coach advises his young QB to avoid the Manning passing Academy??

Allar was considered a first round talent...he is still the same kid. Same natural ability and same prototype build...
Might just need some time to undo the coaching he got at Penn State...
Honestly, I would trade back into round one from 34 and pick Allar before I pick Simpson at 3.

I'll get on board either way...just like I got on board with the Rosen pick....

But Simpson had to be a man among boys before he could win the starting job at a school with mediocrity at QB....

Of all the QB candidates, he might be the easiest to scout. His plusses and minuses are very well defined. He gets some comparison to Nix mostly because he’s essentially had college coaching for 7 years. He’s what is labeled a high floor, low ceiling guy. Those who shun Simpson because of few college starts, see Beck as the opposite.

The good stuff is he’s poised under pressure and willing to take a hit to make a play. He’s not a talented runner, but he’ll run to get a first down. He’s accurate on short and midrange throws. He uses progressions and is at least decent at sizing up matchups.

The negatives are he is not an accurate deep thrower. He has a strong arm, but is not a precision passer throwing deep. He throws line drives well, but does not have great touch. He sometimes throws short passes too hard. He can run for a short distance, but is not elusive. His rollout throws can be erratic.

Beck can start more quickly than other choices, maybe immediately, but he is not likely to become a top tier QB. He goes late one or two, likely to a team looking for a place holder.
