He’s done enough in my eyes to warr trant a top five pick especially if he kills the off season stuff. I wouldn’t hate if we pick him, I just really liked what I saw from Mendoza.

What has he done to warrant a top 5 pick?

He couldn't beat out Jalen Milroe in two years and almost went back to college as a 23 year old - should have been a slam dunk decision if he was that good.
He most likely would have had to hit transfer portal.

He has 15 starts - very clear data on the lack of success for QB's.

But lets ignore all that and make a decision based on the underwear Olympics.

The main thing is he’s a QB, they tend to get drafted high if they have shown the slightest amount of success. The data is real, and it didnt stop those guys from getting drafted pretty high.

Look man I don’t make the rules it’s just what it is.

Oh yea, I would draft Mendoza over him, but I’m not fully convinced that Moore is also better than him.
Brock Purdy has shown me that a lot of this comes down to the player's mindset and the system you put them in. The tough part from an outside perspective is really understand the player as a person.

If Mendoza, Moore and Simpson are the main three QB’s you could justify taking the third one off the board. One of the reasons Steichen/Ballard are still employed is b/c Anthony Richardson was was the clear third guy in that draft so him busting wasn’t due to taking the wrong QB.

So we would have to trust Monti, a new HC and offensive staff to really do their due diligence. QB is the one position I don’t oppose reaching for if the staff is convinced you can win consistently with him. Ideally though Simpson is there at the top of round 2 when we are back on the clock.

Brock Purdy had 46 college starts. Simpson - 15. Keep in mind too that Purdy plays in a Shanahan offense. Personally, I think 'Mr. Never Actually Look at a Reporter when he's answering questions' aka Kyle Shanahan is a brilliant coach. And Purdy is a very calm individual - not sure we see the same with Simpson. If Simpson is there in Round 2, maybe, otherwise BPA.

I understand the red flags. Liking Simpson doesn't necessarily equate to drafting him at 3, but we have no clue about the offense and the coach at this point.

My overall point is that you can't necessarily evaluate these players in a vacuum. Once we have a HC and OC and staff, we can have a better idea what type of player/QB has the best chance to succeed.

I appreciate your point. Key words from Brugler are “light qb class”.

Combine that with desperate GMs and you get guys at the QB position drafted way higher than they should all the time.

Maybe draft a quarterback later, trading down, while collecting draft picks if the Cardinals are throwing darts at the draft board.

Also, another reason I’m not 100% opposed to drafting Simpson high is that this class is just ehhh overall.

Fano/Francis are insane reaches at 3 and they’re not even LTs!

I like Love. RB at 3? No.

Reese….do not want to deal with that archetype anytime soon again.

Bain/Bailey I like, but Bain is also an outlier & Bailey seems like he would be a bit of a liability defending the run. I like both a good bit, but this wouldn’t be like passing up on Will Anderson again.

There’s no Myles Garrett, Chase Young or Nick Bosa in this draft so I wouldn’t rule it out. Even Aidan Hutchinson, Will Anderson and Abdul Carter would be the best non-QB prospect in this draft.

The only way we are not mediocre next year is if we bring in someone who suddenly unlocks Kyler and we already have our franchise QB.

If we go with Brissett next year...we will win a few of those one score games from earlier in the season...we will have improved the roster with 3 Top 65 picks and Free Agency (hopefully) and we will have a better scheme. The problem is mediocre is all you are ever going to get with Brissett. He is a mediocre QB...and has never won anything. I would bet we finish with 6 wins next year if Jacoby is the starter.

If we go with a rookie QB...we will most likely see growing pains and rookie mistakes...making us mediocre at best...terrible at worst. Even more so if we have settled for the #3 or worse QB in a weak QB draft.

The chances of being very good next year with Brissett or a Rookie QB are both very low IMO. Mediocre (meaning 6-8 wins max) seems like our best case scenario for 2026
Until they overhaul the O line, I dont care who they put in at QB. Mendoza, Brisket, Flacco, K1, it doesnt matter. The only one tough enough take the pounding is JB. Fix the line and get a competent OL coach and that'll be good for a few more wins.

For sure...but those few extra wins take us out of drafting a top QB next year. It's a catch 22. If we plan on drafting a franchise QB....they generally go top 3. If we wait until our line is good...we won't be picking top 3...

Man I wish this draft had another stud QB prospect. I'm not even sure it has 2 .. but it's typical cards luck to get a top 3 pick and have no real QB option this year without a trade
