Carson Beck is interesting.

He just turned 23 in November even though he has been in college for 6 years and has 41 starts (36-5)
He is a 2 time Natl Champion (in championship game again this year). He got injured in SEC championship in 2024 otherwise he would declared for draft last year.
~70% completion % in college
Did it against big time competition and on big stages

Of all the QB candidates, he might be the easiest to scout. His plusses and minuses are very well defined. He gets some comparison to Nix mostly because he’s essentially had college coaching for 7 years. He’s what is labeled a high floor, low ceiling guy. Those who shun Simpson because of few college starts, see Beck as the opposite.

The good stuff is he’s poised under pressure and willing to take a hit to make a play. He’s not a talented runner, but he’ll run to get a first down. He’s accurate on short and midrange throws. He uses progressions and is at least decent at sizing up matchups.

The negatives are he is not an accurate deep thrower. He has a strong arm, but is not a precision passer throwing deep. He throws line drives well, but does not have great touch. He sometimes throws short passes too hard. He can run for a short distance, but is not elusive. His rollout throws can be erratic.

Beck can start more quickly than other choices, maybe immediately, but he is not likely to become a top tier QB. He goes late one or two, likely to a team looking for a place holder.
Geeze Harry, you're kind of talking me into this guy in the 2nd.

I don’t like low ceiling guys. A bridge doesn’t make sense to me. When he maxes out the draft choice wouldn’t be high enough to get the needed QB. It’s a long shot a good one would be available and would come to AZ.

Beck will not get drafted anywhere in the top 3 rounds, maybe even 4 or 5.

I agree that he isn't in the conversation to be drafted high at this point.

However, he has traits, performance over many starts, and championships.

I don't mind taking a flyer on him and worst case, you have a decent young backup QB.

Beck is kind of a wild card of QBs. Good or Bad You never know which one you are going to get.

My comparison is FitzMagic

He seems to float the ball a lot on his vertical throws which won't work in the NFL.

Agree with this. Why invest and count on a guy whose likely potential is Nick Mullens? Maybe you draft him to be a future backup like the Browns did with Dillon Gabriel but where does that leave you for 2026?

What QB are we drafting that is helping us win in 2026?

I see Beck as the same level of prospect as Stetson Bennet. The QB who actually played in those two national championship games Beck won. Both were guys who started a million games in college and are not fit for the NFL.

Frankly, Bennet was way better than Beck as a college player. Head and shoulders above him.

Bennett also had a stupid amount of talent around him at that time. Bowers, McConkey, James Cook to name a few. He just had to protect the ball.

I swear the NCAA just flips a coin depending on the player in these situations. Moore, Simpson and Chambliss entering the draft makes it more fun whether we end up with one of them or not.

Kirby tried to replace Bennett 3 times, I guess he didnt like having to depend on an alcoholic. It was insane how many 4 and 5 star recruits couldnt protect the ball or get it to Bowers/Ladd. Bennett just kept winning the job back.

He was a division 2 QB at Ferris State, started his junior year there and won the D2 national championship. He transferred to Ole Miss and was backup to Austin Simmons. Simmons injured his ankle game 2. Chambliss played the rest of the season and never relinquished the starting role, despite the original starter being healthy enough to play.

In his 13 starts at Ole Miss Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards, 22 TDs and 3 INTs. He also had 522 rushing yards and 8 rushing TDs. He is 6'1 200 pounds. He lost once in the regular season, in a close game at UGA.

He played very well the entire season, including a playoff win vs. UGA. Last night he battled against a viscous Miami defense in a back and forth game that was ultimately a loss. I thought he played well in the Miami game, putting up a season high 27 points on that defense, although I should note he had 3 INTs dropped. Miami just held Ohio State to 14 points in a game where Miami lead by two scores the entire game.

He reminds me of Baker Mayfield, some people think he's Gardner Minshew. I think his release time and arm strength are better than Minshew's, but Ole miss prospects in general are polarizing. His former D2 status and backup status kept him off of people's draft radar for most of the year.
