I'm 100% certain that contact has been made between Monti and the Bengals. We know that he was close to getting Garrett and in discussions about Crosby. So of course the call has been made IMO.

But all depends on the price. The situation is a bit of a crap-show. Hendrickson is asking for a extension for fair market value. The Bengals has offered him a deal that would make him around the 20th highest paid Edge rusher and then points fingers for him not to taking it, when he has been top 5 for the last 2-3 seasons.
Agree..I'm not afraid to pay him for a couple years. It's the draft pick compensation. In no way should we give up a first round pick for a short term rental.
Maybe a 2nd. Certainly a 3rd and a 5th
But I wouldn't offer him a long term deal..3 years with the 3rd year being a void year...then either go year by year...or let him walk and get back a 3rd round compensatory pick

Multiple sources reported it.

ESPN even put “Garrett traded to Cardinals” on their tracker. Only to take it down.
Reputable sources? I'm not being argumentative; I simply don't recall and certainly wouldn't have thought this. ESPN ticker getting fooled doesn't mean anything.

Yeah I don't remember anyone saying that. Plus if it was true we don't know who the "sources" were. Could have been an agent, or even the Browns putting out false info to try and increase what they got for him.

As far as I know we have heard nothing from the Cardinals regarding Hendrickson.

This is not information that is on record, but all three non-affiliated podcasts with access reported it.

I mean that would just be making stuff up... That would never happen
Are you referring to:

- the 64 start metric?

- WRs never improve from rookie level?

- NFL players are done at 28?

Or stating the exact opposite of the conclusion of multiple sources that you provide yourself?

Same here. If I’m being honest, I’ve paid far less attention to the offseason than I typically do because of work and my apprehension to invest into a season I can’t help but feel more optimistic about than any other I can remember. With that said, I don’t remember hearing serious links with Garrett or concrete stuff about Crosby. I’m not disputing it, just curious about what I may have missed. As far as Hendrickson goes, my stance is this is the cardinals. If we sign him, he’ll blow a knee out and if we don’t, he’ll lead the league in sacks. I’m probably in the minority but I see OLB as our second deepest room. I wouldn’t say no to a player of his level but I’d prefer an above average offensive lineman.

It was reported post-factual by multiple sources that Monti had conversations about both Garrett and Crosby. We obviously do not know how far those discussion went and how concrete.

That is was close is 100% my interpretation based on ESPN actually reporting on it.

I would also prefer a quality OL, but as crazy as it sounds they seem even harder to get than the league's sack leader.

You know how that went.
"Hi Cleveland, I'm calling to talk about Myles Garrett "...
Click.
I think for a lineman we should look for an OT drafted in the first two rounds that didn't quite work out in his first two years... maybe a new coach, change of scenery, and a switch to OG can improve the kids trajectory

:biglaugh:

From what the sources say, it was probably a bit more than that. It was before the trade deadline, where the Browns didn't have the solution for the cap situation and hadn't re-done Watson's deal. But could be that. Could be that they were far in the negotiations. We'll never know.

On the OG. Penning from the Saints. Former 1st rounder that didn't pan out at RT. Willis is still a FA if you want to go that route as well.

Most of us would be happy to get into the playoffs
We really need to be doing more than that. Would you be happy with anything similar to our last playoff appearance? To me, that would be unacceptable. The bar can't be that low. At the very minimum, for me, we (Kyler, really) need to earn our way into the playoffs rather than back in. We also need to, if not win a game, then at least give a great effort. That is very much still a low bar for success.

I think the fair expectation (mine at least) is a divisional round game.

The GM and HC got a two years freepass. Time to prove that it was worth it.

Just to sharpen these requirements a little more, your standard is:

1) Win a game to clinch a playoff spot
2) In the playoff game, be leading or within two scores going into the fourth quarter
3) In the playoff game, win or have the final margin be seven points or fewer

I say try to get him. They need that x factor. The D needs more. The whole team needs more. Another guard, another wr. Time to make moves.

At minimum. That is the lowest acceptable bar.

May have been asked but would he add a couple more wins to the total if signed? Maybe a division title?
