I look at this five game home stand. Say we run the table, we end that stand at 6-2. That's a good record. Say we lose one, 5-3, still not bad.

The Suns have to decide by tomorrow to pick up third and fourth year options on Cam Johnson and Jalen Smith. IMO, anything less is admitting to a draft blunder.

The deadline was moved to Monday because of the weekend.

No question they're picking up Cam Johnson, I expect that Smith will get his picked up too. It is next year that Smith will have to sweat.

I'm not sure why the Suns waited until the last minute to pick up team options.

Cam Johnson is safer than Jalen Smith but the options for both players should be picked up.

Maybe this is one of the reasons the Suns have been playing Smith of late.

How stupid. You draft a player way higher than he’s supposed to go knowing he’s a project and you quit on him after pretty much a season

You extend him even if it’s just to make money match in a future trade or so the team trading for him will have him under contract.

This makes no sense at all basketball or business wise

It's really a bad move IMO. He was showing signs of progress. It shows the Suns have given up on him long term.

Essentially Smith becomes an expiring contract.

I haven't heard anything on Cam Johnson yet. Hopefully no news is good news.

This stings even more since the Suns passed on Haliburton in the 2020 draft.

Also the Suns passed on Isaiah Stewart and Precious Achiuwa among others.

Like I said this makes zero sense basketball wise or business wise.

The only thing I can think of is they are trying to clear money for Ayton

This reminds me of when Sarver would sell picks rather than pay a rookie

It smacks of a money saving move.

It's going to be hard to follow the drafts of James Jones going forward.

Why haven't we heard anything about the option on Cam Johnson?

It's ridiculous to take it down to the wire.

My boy just texted me the same thing. This is 100% a money move because it flat out my zero sense

You should of announced Cam’s extension as soon as you could just do he would have peace of mind.

I'm sure the Suns have shopped Smith. It appears he has more value as an expiring contract than an asset. This is more reason to keep him though because he is showing signs of becoming the player they hoped they drafted.

The Suns needed to be patient. At least give keep his rights another season.

IMO, he is good as gone to be included in a trade package.

Saves $4 million dollars. We need it after the Ayton extens....

But that’s the thing. Even if you extend him the money doesn’t kick in right away. If I’m a team trading for him I’m going to want him on his rookie contract as long as possible that’s why it’s so head scratching.

You’ve just tanked his value

Apparently the Suns have shopped him and he has little or no trade value. He does have value has a developing young player. Stix showed signs of being an NBA player.

The Suns still had money (partial MLE) and an open roster spot to make another move.

A friend of mine just brought up something pretty interesting even concerning Ayton not being extended

Contracts go under debt and liabilities and factor in when you sell a team. If this story is what it’s supposed to be and maybe Sarver knows his time is up he might be trying to maximize profits?

Suns apparently don't think Stix is in their future and they must have no takers. According to this they are going to let Stix walk. Not shocked by this one bit. I have seen nothing out of him to indicate he could crack a rotation on a regular basis. The Suns work with this kid daily so they know what they have.
