The Suns get under both tax aprons, first, and second with the buyout of Bradley Beal.

Some math on where the Suns are in regard to the luxury tax.

I'm not sure if this will be the Suns starting lineup, but this gives a quick snapshot of the team and where they are.

I am pretty sure that is not the starting lineup. That is way way to small.

PF is the position up for grabs.

I think Book, Green, Brooks, and Williams are locks to start

I think the Suns are working on some other moves to get there and stay there, i.e., trading O'Neale, Allen or Richards.

They can take back less money in a trade.

Hooray! The Suns are free.

Only 2 million less. That really doesn't mean much.

well they can either sign a normal contract up to 8M to stay under all aprons, pay luxury tax on 6M. This could be more if they get rid of Allen or Oneal for almost nothing.

This also free us the MLE for up to 14M without any penalty.

So it does mean a lot more than 2M.

This is a free to read article by Gerald Bourguet on the impact of waiving and stretching Bradley Beal's contract.

if we are looking for a pg we're probably looking to unload jalen or brooks or both? i mean we wanna start dunn right?

if we introduce a new pg to the line up it means either jalen or brooks or dunn isn't starting - because book and williams definitely are

The 2023 was a big oops for the Suns organization and ownership.

We can pretend it was a bad dream… except for paying off a 5-year mortgage on Bradley Beal, losing important players and some unprotected Suns first round draft picks.

The Suns can aggregate players in trade and take back less money. They have much more flexibility.

Staying under the second tax apron is the most important.
We are now under both aprons according to the guys on the radio. Which means we don't have to shed anymore guys to shed them. We can actually move pieces for other pieces we need.

Yes, saving $200 million and regaining flexibility is what it's all about.

I expect the Suns to go back over the first apron to fill out their roster at some point.

He didn't choose to, that was the min amount he had to in order to get bought out.

Trying to be fair, Bradley Beal didn't have to accept the buyout, but he probably hopes to make up for lost money and more on his next contract.

One thing for sure is the Suns were the first (and worst) to suffer the most pernicious object lessons of the "new-age CBA." We'll see if anyone else gets the whammy to the same or worse level than they did.

Of course, you can count on it that if league favored franchises like the Lakers, Knicks, Celtics, etc. start doing stupid things and get snagged in it, Silver will step in and it will get revised in a major way the very next offseason to free them from the noose.

I wouldn't be surprised if he made the change mid-season. ;)
