Southern Miss baseball added another transfer to its offseason haul on June 18, securing the commitment of UAB second baseman Brady Waugh.

Waugh announced his commitment on social media.

He played one season for the Blazers and two seasons for Shelton State Community College before joining the Golden Eagles. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior went to high school at Briarwood Christian in Alabama.

Grateful and excited to announce my commitment to the University of Southern Mississippi. Looking forward to this chapter of my life where it all began! Proverbs 16:3 pic.twitter.com/1GNU2HczQp

In 2026, Waugh excelled at the plate with UAB, finishing the year with a .322 batting average and a .431 on-base percentage. He tallied 49 RBIs and seven home runs on 67 hits, finishing the season on an 11-game hit streak. Waugh also drew 40 walks.

His best game at the plate last season came on March 7 against Middle Tennessee. Waugh went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, all of which came on a walk-off grand slam to clinch a win for the Blazers.

In the field, he played primarily at second base, starting 55 of his 58 games there and posting a fielding percentage of .970.

At Shelton State Community College in 2025, Waugh played in 54 games and hit .290, totaling 42 hits and 29 RBIs. As a freshman in 2024, he played in 37 games and finished the season with 18 hits and 12 RBIs.

Waugh will likely fill the second base vacancy left by Kyle Morrison and provides the Southern Miss lineup with another left-handed hitter. He also continues an effort by the Golden Eagles' coaching staff to get faster on the base paths. Southern Miss stole 29 bases as a team last season and four of its new transfers stole a combined 41 bases in 2026.

Waugh joins Northwest Florida State College catcher and outfielder Brock Clayton, Grand Canyon first baseman Cannon Peery, Toledo outfielder Cade Baker and Pearl River Community College pitcher Drew Harrison in the Golden Eagles' transfer portal class.

Southern Miss players Jace Norton, McCarty English, Brooks Willoughby, Jake Neely and Camden Rodgers have all announced their intentions to transfer from the program. English committed to Arizona on June 12.
