Southern Miss baseball added its second transfer player in as many days with the commitment of Grand Canyon first baseman Cannon Peery.

The junior announced his decision to join the Golden Eagles on June 9. He entered the transfer portal on May 27.

Peery spent three years with the Antelopes, taking over as the team's starting first baseman in 2026. He had a .287 batting average this season, finishing with career highs in hits (54) and home runs (nine), and had 32 RBIs, with nine games in which he drove in multiple runs.

As a sophomore, he played in 51 games, starting 42 (24 of those at designated hitter), batted .317 and had 38 RBIs.

Southern Miss first baseman Matthew Russo is out of eligibility, making that position one of need for coach Christian Ostrander and the Golden Eagles. Peery will have a chance to fill the void.

Peery is the second player to join Southern Miss' 2026 transfer portal class, joining Pearl River Community College pitcher Drew Harrison, who committed to the Golden Eagles on June 8.

Four pitchers from this season have entered the portal for Southern Miss: McCarty English, Brooks Willoughby, Jake Neely and Camden Rodgers.
