In true fashion Demarcado sounded just like his HC in his locker room interview. Zero remorse, no apologies. Just “gotta move on” talk and no point in thinking about it anymore speak.

This culture JG has enabled is WILDDD
That post press conference by him is insanely infuriating- even daring to start pointing the finger at others saying they made mistakes as a team.

Dawg you just made one of the worst plays of the season- at least show some remorse. Cut his ass

It’s not a “mistake.” He purposefully dropped it. He knew how close to the front of the endzone he was. He’s not blind. And his hand didn’t all of a sudden seize up. And he didn’t accidentally leave grease on his hand. He deliberately dropped it very close to the endzone. That’s purposeful carelessness to act cool. Let’s not make excuses for these guys. It’s not a mistake, it’s stupidity and carelessness.

It's the premature ejactulation of football and any player that does it should be binned.
I want to agree with this, but....

About half way through the 2002 season, as a Ravens season ticket holder, I was attending a game vs. the Bengals when a Ravens' rookie DB intercepted a pass from Jon Kitna and was about to cross the goal line for a pick-six, but he slowed down and held the ball out behind him to taunt the Bengals. A hustling TJ Whosyourmomma smacked the ball out of his hand and the Bengals' remained possession.

I spewed venom for about 5 minutes about wanting that flaming idiot cut on the spot. Tolerating someone that selfish and stupid has got to send the worst possible message and set the worst tone for the culture of the team!

Of course, that guy (Ed Reed) turned out to be one of the greatest safeties of all time.

Now, Demercado is no Hall of Famer, not a rookie, and we JUST SAW the Colts suffer from this same idiocy last week (Adonai Mitchell) and last season (Jonathan Taylor).

Just hold everyone to the same standard. It's what successful places do
Yes, Bruce Arians cut a practice squad player for parking in his spot.

But as Jimmy Johnson said, "I can't be writing what the rules are because my rules vary from player to player.... We had a linebacker named John Roper who got cut for falling asleep in a meeting. If Troy Aikman fell asleep in a meeting, I'd go over and whisper, 'Wake up, Troy.'"

And as Herm Edwards said, "Everybody gets treated fairly but not everybody gets treated equally. The stars are given more but more is expected from them."

So for me it comes down to a couple of things. Did the coaching staff explicitly show the team how Mitchell's fumble cost the Colts the game last week and emphasize that such idiocy was completely intolerable? If so, I don't see how Demercado can be kept on the team. That would totally undermine their credibility (such as it is!).

If not, bone-headed as the move was, cutting Demercado could have the opposite effect - making him look like the scapegoat for all the coaching failures that also helped lose the game. Players could turn on the coaches for a move like that (if they haven't already completely lost faith in the staff).

I thought Paris Johnson showed real leadership by immediately supporting Demercado, knowing that the team needs him to make plays to help them win in the future.

Bottom line for me: given the unknowns about what was coached and the locker room dynamics between support for Demercado and trust in the coaching staff... I think Demercado needs to at least be benched for a game or more, but I'm just not sure whether he should be cut.

The Cards need as much talent as they can scrape together in the RB room at this point, and as far as I know, no player has ever made that mistake twice! But it sure is infuriating.

Does Demarcado's brain implosion have a silver lining?

If he scores a touchdown there we win (probably...) however all the problems that exist are still there. Papered over by 3 wins against poor opponents.

The debacle that followed surely leads to some changes

its a discipline issue. simple as that.
Hang on to the ball until the play is over. no whistle?? play aint over.

Gannon used to have this team playing to the whistle on every snap. they have lost that
This is what I don’t understand this team under Gannon has played hard regardless of talent. But this year it’s missing. Something has changed.

I mean, I don’t think you can cut him although it would be warranted… He is by far our best pass blocker, and from what I can tell the most explosive player in the backfield. He’s the only guy that has 3 50+ yard touchdowns in the last two years.

But he doesn't. He only has 4TD's in his career. 11 yds and 49 yards as a rookie, 53 last year against the Bears, and a short one this year.

The one last night the hole was so big any of our RB's would have broken that.

I've always liked him but that's 2 games he's directly played a massive role in us losing this year. If our 2 starters weren't out injured he'd be cut for sure

That's great that Gannon ripped into him like that but it's not enough. Best case scenario for him he should be benched but the reality is if they put him on the PS someone would claim him so basically benching him would just mean make him play Special teams but not play on offense

This team is now the 2024 Chicago Bears after the Hail Mary fiasco in Washington.

Head coach defended everyone. Lost the team. Season down the drain.

I am actually surprised at this poll.

He should be punished, but I think we can safely assume he would not do this again, so I don't see how getting rid of him would help the team.

I don't think it will actually.

The Jets cut Michael Carter after he had a costly cut block penalty against the Raiders. The Cards claimed him the following day. The Jets offense didn't get any better after cutting him and ended up having the two worst offensive performances of the season right after he was cut.

Demarcado probably just cost someone their job in the long run (Petzing?). However cutting him after he already made his bonehead decision won't change anything. It will make Cards fans feel good for about 20 minutes and then what?

It isn't about making me feel good.

It's about sending a clear message to the players that their inattention to detail in the form of boneheaded plays and penalties won't be tolerated.

A prick move by Gannon - absolutely... but it's needed. IMO.

It also presumably isn't Gannon's final decision as to whether or not to cut a specific player. If he isn't able to clearly articulate his message and expectations to players then it's a much deeper problem than something that cutting a decent RB from an already depleted roster is going to solve.

Gannon to Monti...

I want him gone...

Monti - OK, consider it done.

And dumping Demercado articulates in a very tangible way his message and expectations.

Run-of-the-mill running backs are 10 cents a dozen.

That may be the case during the offseason. However after being a quarter of the way through a season the RB position is already at a point of where teams are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find help.
