New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye established himself as one of the best players in the NFL last season and is nominated for two awards at this year's ESPYS.
Maye is nominated for Best NFL Player and Best Breakthrough Athlete. Maye lost the NFL MVP Award to Matthew Stafford last season, but was named the Air Player of the Year. Maye also finished fifth in the Offensive Player of the Year voting.
Nominated alongside Maye for Best NFL Player are Myles Garrett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Stafford. Smith-Njigba was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year last season, and Garrett was the Defensive Player of the Year. The NFL Honors do not present a Breakthrough Athlete Award or an equivalent, but Maye is certainly deserving of that nomination as well.
Nominated alongside him are Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks, Alysa Liu, an Olympic figure skater, and Fernando Mendoza of the Las Vegas Raiders. Maye has a good chance to win this award after finishing as the NFL MVP Award runner-up in just his second season as a pro.
