The New England Patriots are in mandatory minicamp right now, and ended Thursday's practice a little early after Bradyn Swinson collided with Drake Maye during a team period, according to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Alex Barth.

"Practice ended a little early after Bradyn Swinson collided with Drake Maye during a team rep," wrote Barth on X. "Wasn’t a full tackle but the QB ended up on the ground and took a second to get up. Maye didn’t check in with the trainers, and is now throwing extra after practice. Looks OK."

The last thing the Patriots need is for Maye to get hurt in June. He is the franchise quarterback, and without him it would be very difficult for the team to get back to the Super Bowl. Maye wears the red non-contact jersey at practice, and it is very important that he is kept safe.

The fact that Maye stayed behind to get some extra throws in is a good sign that he is alright. However, plays like that cannot happen at this point in the offseason. Swinson and all the defensive players know that hitting Maye is off-limits at practice.

Barth's report does not make it seem like Swinson collided with Maye intentionally, but it is still something that needs to be taken care of. Good teams do not hit the quarterback at practice and risk jeopardizing the season. It was certainly a scare when Maye stayed on the ground momentarily after the play.
