i guess my main question would be "why does word suck so hard?" but i'll start with a more specific one instead. randomly one day about a month ago, i opened word and the default page margins were all goofy (see below). when i click on the default button, nothing happens.

MESA! :thud:
did you try changing them to what you want & then pressing the default button? It should ask you if you want to make those settings your default settings.

Word sucks.

it also won't let me just manually go in and fix them without going to the columns button and making the document one column. if i try to fix it without making it one column, i get this:

Did you try turning the computer off, then turning it back on again? That is the suggestion seem to get for everything. :)

Easy fix

Navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXXX\Application Data\Microsoft\Office

where XXXXXXXX = your user name

Delete the word11.pip and the wordma11.pip

reboot and everything should return to default

Do this. Open a new doc. Go into page setup and set the margins you want by deault (standard is (1x1x1.25x1.25). Click Default. Close Word (dont save). Open a new doc. It should be fixed.

Also, I think when you click "Default" it doesn't reset the settings, it takes the seeting as you currently have them and makes them the default.
