AZ Cardinals Mortgage Guy

I have been thinking about the draft with regards to the contracts awarded the high picks (say top 10). The system was originally designed to help the team with the poorer records, thereby promoting parity. But, due to larger and larger rookie contracts awarded to young, unproven players, it may in fact be a detriment to teams to pick early in the draft; especially so if a team has a high draft pick that busts. That's exactly how I feel.
It's a negative to pay a guy 80 bazzillion dollars when he's never played a down in the NFL. Hurts your cap, and hurts the chemistry of your team when guys like Q get chump change compared to your unproven high draft pick.
I'm ecstatic about having a mid 1st round choice, and look forward to the day when we'll be drafting at the end of the first round.
Dropping down to #16 won't make any difference because the guy that the Cards would have drafted at #9 will still be available.

I am beginning to think that picking in the top 10 spots in the draft does not promote but actually deters parity.
Something the league needs to consider?
Remember how some fans we're upset a few years ago when the hail mary to beat the Vikings cost us the #1 pick and moved us down to #3...and we ended up woth Fitz instead of Eli Manning![]()
Your secondary is only as good as your pressure on the QB. Think of how well our defense played before Berry went down. And Bert was not getting alot of sacks. We need a PASS RUSHER!!! Bad!!!
We are in Cason predicted range!

Take Harvey and Campbell off that list for me.
The only thing Harvery ever did was make a name for himself in one national championship game. Everyone rode his jock on that one game alone during preseason, then he goes out and completely falls flat on his face his during this past season. Production was no where to be found.
Almost same scenerio for Campbell. ONly reason he was rated so high during preseason was because of measureables. He then goes out and proves measureables do not equal production and has a crappy season.
I will Groves a pass on his below average season as well only becuase he was playing on 3 brokwn toes most of the year.
Kenny Phillips is also a tad overratted as well IMO. Riding the coat tails of past Miami Safeties some bit.
I will say that the draft debates this year will be hotly debated because sitting at #16 we have way more options and possibilities then in years past.
Also have to add in my sleeper who after is all said and done I think will be considered top 20 material. OLB Shawn Crable of Michigan. Will have great measureables, perfect 3-4 OLB prospect, and leads the nation in TFL's. Combine is TFL plus his sacks and he leads the nation in stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Uh yeah, but I would venture to say that the secondar really went to crap when AW and Green went down Francisco was already out) and we started seeing Celestine and Ralph Brown. I do agree with you on the principle of the pass rush thing though.Your secondary is only as good as your pressure on the QB. Think of how well our defense played before Berry went down. Methinks you are a bit jaded on those observations. Calais Campbell was playing on a d line with 245 pound DTs. He was constantly forced to pinch down inside to help and had to give up the edge. Most teams ran on Miami and his talents were unused.
Kenny Phillips was in a secondary with 3 freshmen and was all over the field. BTW, Kenny Phillips can play corner better than safety.
The pre draft evaluation applications showed both to be top ten talent, which shows that the pros disagree with you. NO biggie, just another opinion.
They still didn't do what they were supposed to.As for Campbell excuse of not producing becuase of 245 pound DT's. According to Rivals depth chart their DT's weigh 271 and 286 with a 255 pound pass rusher in Vegas rotating in.
He had a solid year (lame statistically in comparison to last year - 50 TKL, 6 SK, INT),
When you include the things that can't be seen on a statline, yeah it was.I will give some on most of the other points but that is not a solid season.

I agree on all accounts. He'd be lost in a 3-4. I just felt the need to clean up some things before people call him a total dud.Again top 10 talent push through that stuff and still produce. It is what seperates blue chippers and just 1st round prospects.
He needs to stay in school and put his weight back down to a more natural state.
Also sounds like Campbell is more of a 4-3 DE if he needs bigger better DT's next to him to produce. And his 285 is not a natural weight for him. Shouldnt be in our plans anyways.

Top 10 talent produce inspite of their preceived excuses. Neither one produced.
I give Phillips a slight repreave because he was still named all ACC 1st team.

Oh BTW, a brand new HC, who was Lost in Space.
Take that back. Shannon did well for his first year considering what he was given.
