THOMASVILLE – Southwest Guilford won 13-2 against Ledford in the HiToms Varsity Classic baseball showcase Saturday at Finch Field.

Chase Talent had four hits, including a double and a home run, and six RBIs to lead the Cowboys (4-3), who led 7-1 through three innings and scored in all but one inning. Connor Kennedy added three hits, while Brendan Snider doubled twice and drove in a run.

Kaden Morgan got the pitching win, striking out six in four innings. Lawson took the loss, with one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.

Hutton Coltrain had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers (1-5). Jaiden Burchette added an RBI.

RAGSDALE, OAK GROVE

THOMASVILLE – Ragsdale beat Oak Grove 7-0 in the HiToms Varsity Classic baseball showcase Saturday at Finch Field.

Thristan Figueroa had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Tigers (6-2), while Ryan Hendricks also had two hits and an RBI. Aiden Chafin doubled and drove in two runs, while Camden McGill also had a hit and two RBIs.

Hendricks got the complete-game pitching win for Ragsdale, striking out seven. Carson Everhart struck out five in 2 1/3 innings for the Grizzlies.

Aiddison Terry and Everhart each had a hit for Oak Grove (4-3).

HIGH POINT CENTRAL, MONTGOMERY CENTRAL

TROY – High Point Central lost 10-0 in five innings against Montgomery Central in PAC Seven 4A/5A baseball Friday at Montgomery Central. The Bison moved to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN, COVENANT DAY

HIGH POINT – High Point Christian beat Covenant Day 7-6 in nonconference baseball Friday at Oak View Baptist Church.

Whit Butler had two hits and an RBI for the Cougars (6-1). Kent Woodward added a hit and two RBIs, while Caleb Merritt had a hit and one RBI.

Ty Hayes allowed no hits and just one run while striking out five in five innings.

WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY, VIRGINIA EPISCOPAL

HIGH POINT – Westchester Country Day defeated Virginia Episcopal School 9-3 in nonconference baseball Saturday at Westchester.

Cameron Daniel and Ricky Velez each had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Wildcats (4-1). Crawford Elrod and Joseph Hinojos each had a hit and an RBI, while Garrett Le had two RBIs.

Kaline Burr-Ellis earned the pitching win, striking out four in four innings. Ashton Pittman had three hit innings, striking out five.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, RJ REYNOLDS

KERNERSVILLE – Bishop McGuinness won 10-7 against RJ Reynolds in nonconference baseball Friday at Bishop. The Villains improved to 3-4 overall.

THOMASVILLE, LEXINGTON

THOMASVILLE – Thomasville rolled past Lexington 13-3 in nonconference baseball Friday at Finch Field.

Luis Sosa had two hits, including a double, for the Bulldogs (3-3). Travail Barnes and Axel Dominguez each added a double and two RBIs.

Elijah McNeair got the pitching win, striking out nine in 4 1/3 innings.

TRINITY, FORBUSH

TRINITY – Trinity stopped Forbush 7-3 in nonconference baseball Friday at Trinity.

Grayson Fauber had three hits for the Bulldogs (5-2), while Indiana Hill and Cohen Wolfe each drove in two. Walker Parrish also had two hits.

Peyton Williams struck out 10 on the mound.

SOFTBALLHIGH POINT CENTRAL, CENTRAL DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON – High Point Central lost 15-5 in six innings against Central Davidson in PAC Seven 4A/5A softball Friday at Central Davidson. The Bison dipped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

HIGH POINT – Southwest Guilford rolled past Page 15-0 in three innings Friday in Metro 6A/7A Conference softball at Southwest.

Kaylee Patel had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for the Cowgirls (4-2). Kendall Severt tripled and drove in two, while Aniya Harris doubled and drove in two, and Johana Rodriguez Salmon singled and drove in two.

Stevee Kendrick also had three RBIs.

Harris got the complete-game pitching win, striking out six.

OAK GROVE, ORANGE

MIDWAY – Oak Grove beat Orange 5-0 in nonconference softball Friday at Oak Grove.

Harper Sugg had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Grizzlies (4-3). Hollis Fitzgerald and Kate Bertschi, who doubled, each had a hit and an RBI, while Natalie Carpenter also drove in a run.

Bertschi earned the complete-game pitching win, striking out two while allowing just two hits and two walks.

RAGSDALE, GRIMSLEY

GREENSBORO – Ragsdale raced past host Grimsley 21-2 in three innings Friday in Metro 6A/7A Conference softball.

Genesis Edwards had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs for the Tigers (7-0 overall, 3-0 conference). Anna Sizemore also had three hits and two RBIs, while Ellie Cuthrell homered twice and drove in four. Skyler Bryant had two hits and three RBIs.

Gracie Jet Cuthrell earned the complete-game win, striking out six.

SOUTHERN GUILFORD, ASHEBORO

SUMNER – Southern Guilford won 19-3 in three innings Friday against Asheboro in TAAC Six 5A/6A softball at Southern.

Madison Goins tripled, homered and drove in four for the Storm (3-1 overall, 1-0 conference). Madison Smith also doubled, while Cemiah Barringer had a hit and two RBIs.

Smith got the pitching win, striking out seven while allowing no hits in 2 1/3 innings.

GIRLS SOCCERSOUTHWEST GUILFORD, NORTHWEST GUILFORD

HIGH POINT – Southwest Guilford lost 2-1 against Northwest Guilford in nonconference girls soccer Friday at Southwest.

Ali Bennett scored for the Cowgirls (2-3). Maya Lance tallied 12 saves in goal.

LEDFORD, COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN

WILSON – Ledford tied Community Christian 1-1 in The Brittany Willis Memorial Scholarship Soccer Showcase on Saturday at the J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex.

Gracie Johnson received the sportsmanship award – the event's signature honor – for the Panthers (2-1-2).

OAK GROVE, FORSYTH HOME EDUCATORS

MIDWAY – Oak Grove beat the Forsyth Home Educators 5-3 in nonconference girls soccer Friday at Oak Grove. The Grizzlies improved to 3-0-2.

LACROSSESOUTHWEST GUILFORD, SOUTHEAST GUILFORD

PLEASANT GARDEN – Southwest Guilford lost 7-2 against Southeast Guilford in Metro 6A/7A Conference boys lacrosse Friday at Southeast. The Cowboys moved to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

In the girls match, Southwest lost 8-4 to move to 2-2 and 2-1. Rylee Wexler had two goals, while Elliotte Alderman and Abby Foster each had one.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, WESTERN ALAMANCE

ELON – Bishop McGuinness topped Western Alamance 9-8 in nonconference boys lacrosse Friday at Western Alamance. The Villains improved to 2-2.

RAGSDALE, SOUTHEAST GUILFORD

JAMESTOWN – Ragsdale edged Southeast Guilford 9-8 in nonconference boys lacrosse Friday at Ragsdale. The Tigers improved to 1-2.

HIGH POINT UNIVERSITYBASEBALL

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – High Point University won the series finale 7-5 on Sunday after losing 9-7 on Friday and 12-7 on Saturday against USC Upstate in Big South Conference baseball at Upstate.

On Sunday, Willie Ponce had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs while Landen Johnson homered and drove in two. Jace Kohler added two hits and an RBI, while Jack Clark had one hit and an RBI.

Noah Zimmerman (2-0) got the win in relief, striking out six in 4 1/3 hitless innings.

On Saturday, Jake McCarter had three hits, including a double, while Seojun Oh homered twice and drove in three. Clark also had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, while Clark and Kohler also homered.

Ty Brachbill took the loss, striking out three in three innings.

On Friday, Lane Allen homered twice and drove in four runs, while Oh had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Clark also had two hits, while Ponce homered and McCarter had a hit and an RBI.

Wade Walton (2-2) had the loss, striking out two in 2 1/3 innings.

The Panthers (11-9 overall, 1-2 conference), after cancelling Tuesday's nonconference game at Appalachian State, will continue conference play Friday through Sunday at Gardner-Webb.

MEN'S LACROSSE

HIGH POINT – High Point toppled No. 17 UMass 15-7 in Atlantic 10 Conference men's lacrosse Saturday at Vert Stadium.

Justin Wixted had three goals and an assist for the Panthers (2-5), who led 8-3 at halftime following a seven-goal second quarter. Ryan Hynes added two goals and two assists, while Carson Robins had four goals.

Ian Cann had a goal and two assists, while Luca Accardo had a goal and an assist and Magnus Falkiewicz had two goals. Zack Overend made 13 saves in goal.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

HIGH POINT – High Point University lost 11-10 against Liberty in nonconference women's lacrosse Saturday at Vert Stadium.

Shannon Smith had two goals and two assists for the Panthers (0-6). Jaidyn Donley added two goals, while Tatum Goettelmann and Anna Checkosky each had two goals. Lily Trout chipped in two assists.

Ava Welsh made seven saves in goal.

INDOOR TRACK

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second year in a row, the High Point University track and field team sent two athletes to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Ricardo Montes de Oca made the podium in the men's pole vault where he was crowned a First Team All-American. Justin Sluijter competed in the men's long jump and was named a Second Team All-American.

Montes de Oca placed seventh overall after clearing 5.60m, just .01m shy of his own program record. He becomes the first HPU men's pole vaulter to earn first team All-American status in Big South history.

Sluijter becoming HPU's first-ever long jump athlete to compete at the NCAA's and just the fourth long jumper in Big South history at indoors. He reached a distance of 7.37m on his second jump, which earned him 15th place.
