MARIETTA, Ga. — A hat trick by Arnaud Tattevin and an extended shootout helped Carolina Core FC surge past Atlanta United 2 by a 3-3 (10-9 in penalty kicks) score in MLS NEXT Pro soccer Friday at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground.
The Foxes (4-10-8, 23 points) trailed by two after Atlanta (10-6-4, 34 points) scored twice in the opening 20 minutes.
But Tattevin answered with a penalty kick in the 38th minute and a score in the first extra minute of the half — each time pulling within one. He netted the equalizer in the 50th minute.
Ryan Baer, David Diaz, Nolan Evers, Antonio Pineda, Corey Lundeen, Ricks Ford, Graham Ford, Rashid Tetteh, Ricardo Montenegro and Bryce Swinehart each scored in the shootout.
Nolan Anderson made a diving save to his left in the 10th round to earn the extra point for CCFC, which will host Huntsville City FC on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
ROCKERS LOSE THREE STRAIGHT
HIGH POINT — The High Point Rockers lost three in a row — falling 12-4 on Sunday, 6-5 on Saturday and 10-3 on Friday — against the Charleston Dirty Birds in Atlantic League baseball at Truist Point.
On Sunday, Nolan Watson homered and drove in three for the Rockers, who led 3-0 in the first but trailed 10-3 in the middle of the fifth. Alex Dickerson added a hit and an RBI, while Ivan Melendez had two hits, including a double.
Sam Ryan took the loss, striking out five in four innings.
On Saturday, Dickerson homered and drove in two for High Point, which tied it 1-1 in the first but fell behind 4-1 in the third. Melendez, who doubled twice, and Ethan Skender, who tripled and drove in a run, each had three hits.
Nick Trabacchi had the pitching loss, striking out three in 2 2/3 innings.
On Friday, Skender homered for the Rockers, who led 2-0 through four but allowed six runs in the ninth. Braxton Davidson had two hits, including a double, while Dickerson tripled and drove in a run.
Relief pitcher Jesse Hahn took the loss, striking out one in one inning.
High Point (42-48 overall, 13-14 second half) will visit Hagerstown for a six-game set this week. It will host Gastonia next week.
HITOMS FALL IN FINALE AT ASHEBORO
ASHEBORO — The High Point-Thomasville HiToms finished their season with a 5-3 loss against the Asheboro ZooKeepers in Coastal Plain League baseball Saturday at Asheboro’s McCrary Park.
Former Westchester Country Day standout Tate Vogler had a double and an RBI for the HiToms (24-22), who finished fourth in the CPL West. Josh Foulks also drove in a run, while Dom Stephenson chipped in a double.
High Point-Thomasville scored once in the second to lead 1-0 and two in the seventh to pull within 4-3.
Braxton Stewart took the pitching loss, striking out three in 4 1/3 innings.
