MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The High Point-Thomasville HiToms crushed the Martinsville Mustangs 11-2 in Coastal Plain League baseball Monday at Hooker Field at Lou Whitaker Park.
Grady Mee and Drew Blalock each had three hits and two RBIs for the HiToms (10-5). Josh Foulks had four hits, including two doubles, while Charlie Slabaugh had two hits and an RBI and Matt Williams doubled and drove in two.
High Point-Thomasville, which moved within a half-game of first-place Asheboro, scored the first 10 runs of the game — including seven in the third — to lead big in the middle of the fifth.
Evan Davidson was credited with the win in one inning of relief.
The HiToms also won 22-11 on Sunday against the Wilmington Sharks after losing 5-4 in 10 innings against the Forest City Owls on Saturday.
Mee homered twice and drove in six against the Sharks, while Hunter Keen also homered and drove in six. Drew Blalock had four hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Ryan Allen had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.
Dylan Maire got the win, striking out two in four innings.
Walter Morgan had a hit and two RBIs against the Owls. Branton Jernigan had three hits and an RBI, while Mee had two hits and Morgan had a hit and two RBIs. Brock Elliott took the pitching loss in extra innings.
High Point-Thomasville, after visiting Macon on Wednesday and Lexington on Thursday, will host the Boone Bigfoots on Friday.
ROCKERS END SERIES AT CHARLESTON WITH WIN
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The High Point Rockers finished up with a 7-5 win on Sunday after losing 11-10 on Friday and 6-3 on Saturday against the Charleston Dirty Birds in Atlantic League baseball at Charleston’s GoMart Ballpark.
Patrick Sanchez hit a grand slam and totaled two hits and four RBIs in Sunday’s win. Nick Longhi also had four hits — including two homers — and three RBIs as the Rockers jumped to a 6-0 lead in the middle of the third.
Dalton Hitt got the pitching win, striking out one while allowing no hits and one walk in two innings. Ryan Chasse earned the save, striking out one while allowing just one hit and one walk in two innings.
Sanchez also homered twice in Friday’s game. Braxton Davidson also had a grand slam, and Luke Napleton homered as High Point fell behind 7-1 in the fifth but scored six in the sixth to tie it and three in the ninth to pull within a run.
Nick Timpanelli took the loss in one inning of relief.
Napleton hit a three-run home run to highlight Saturday’s game. Sanchez doubled, while three others each singled. The Rockers tied it 3-3 in the top of the third, but allowed one in the bottom half and two more in the eighth.
Ben Wereski took the pitching loss, striking out six in four innings.
High Point (20-28) is hosting Lexington for a six-game series this week — all games will be at 6:35 p.m., except Wednesday’s game at 12:05 and Sunday’s game at 3:36.
11 PANTHERS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-MAC
CLEVELAND — Eleven members of the High Point University women’s rowing team have earned Academic All-MAC honors.
Josephine Chapuis, Willow Conley, Madelyn Cummings, Caitlin Enright, Carolyn Fox, Audrey Houle, Arianna Ording, Price Rinker, Anna Venditti, Riley Verner and Grayson Williams were among the 95 named from the conference.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the events.
