How does this hurt his trade value? He can’t be traded until the beginning of 2026. If he isn’t healed by then then something is wrong. Kyler wasn’t going to increase his trade value value this year. Everyone on the planet knows him, his strengths and his weaknesses.
Sorry, I wasn't clear about the trade value part. If the foot is either Lisfranc or Turf Toe and he was practicing on it and making it worse, requiring more time to heal, it could possibly linger into the off season. This would be on the Cardinals and their doctors. A 4-8 week injury could have its clock starting over. This is all speculation on my part.

1. I think the injury is legit. As an example, Brock Purdy hurt his toe in a game he completed. Didnt show up as an injury until the next week and hasnt really played since.
2. Its quite possible / likely that Kyler's foot just hasnt improved. Sure he can walk around, but cant do any dynamic movements. If thats the case, you cant put him out there.
3. In the meantime -- JB has played great.
4. Putting Kyler on IR now just gives the coaching staff breathing room for 4 games. No week to week questions. The rest of the team and JB know its his job for that time.
5. If JB plays well -- Kyler quietly gets to stay on IR out of the spotlight.
6. IF JB regresses back or is just flat out bad: Kyler gets his last chance (and this time, the team really means it).

Its the best decision right now.

His NFL career may be in jeopardy honestly.

The Cardinals f'd this to so bad. Should had been in IR 3 weeks ago. If his injury lingers now and hurts his trade value, the Cardinals need to blame themselves for they handled this.
Trade isn't happening till the offseason. It will not affect his value.

I would say thats ALL on the docs. they are the ones that have to clear him to practice not the FO

Not really. Mild inflammation isn’t going to show up on an MRI. If Kyler is like “yup still hurts” they’re gonna take his word for it.

This! I will not bad mouth K1 from here on out. If this is truly it, I've been a fan of his from day 1. I've had my complaints and gnashing of teeth over his play, (and attitude at times) but he's given us memorable play in doses and gave his all. This franchise and us fans subsequently aren't in a position to just dismiss what he gave us. He's still among the better Cards QB's we've had, so that alone make me root for him in the future. That being said, I'm ready to sign the divorce papers.
And he is ready to take the settlement….

He will get one more shot, but that is going to be it.

One chance if his foot/health is tip top. Wonder if he'd settle for being a backup.

My GUESS is that they hoped he could come back quicker and they likely didn't think JB would play as well as he has. If we'd won even one more game so we're 4-4 there would be pressure to bring Kyler back but the combination of losing the first 2 games with JB, and how well JB played, has made it pointless to rush Kyler back

I mean SF is almost literally doing the same thing with Purdy. They haven't put him on IR yet but like yesterday Shanahan admitted the turf toe is not healing as fast as they expcted and they don't know how long he's going to be put.

The difference is Purdy is clearly better than his backup, Kyler isn't, or hasn't been this year.

I really wanted kyler to excel here but it hasnt worked out. Hope he finds it somewhere else but i want a tall qb who stands in the pocket again. Our your defense is good, it would be nice to have an affordable vet behind center with a young qb behind him

i long for the Warner/Palmer days

Hell id settle for McCown and Blake! Remember Blakes tight spiral!?

If its Lisfranc that’s bad. It tends to reoccur. It hindered Pujols the last 10 years of his career.

Jeff Blake was awesome...in Madden...dude could throw it 80 yards on a rope.

be careful what you wish for...those Warner/Palmer glory revivals could just as easily have looked like Rodgers with the jets or Favre with the vikings....old QB's usually get put out to pasture for a reason...Warner and Palmer both had special circumstances leading to them no longer starting for the team that made them famous... but the majority of the time its simply because age caught up and dude is cooked.

our best option is still the draft.

some years back...I stumped for the idea of trading a few first round picks for the right to draft Sam Darnold...and if we didnt, then stand pat and draft Lamar Jackson...we did neither...
and while I am normally against trading picks from multiple years...if Mikes plan is to keep this staff in tact we need a QB that fits the scheme...we need a traditional prototype QB...
so we need to trade picks and go get the best one... Fernando Mendoza..

barring that,...draft an ORT and hope Drew Alar falls to us in the second round...then snatch him up and sit him behind Brissett for a couple seasons....I think Alar can still be a good pro,...he is just having a tough time surviving that damned coach.

some people here forget..but I remember what its like being in QB purgatory...jumping from one to the next...constantly wondering who the next guy is gonna be... the only way to be sure is to draft your own guy...develop him...and ride him for 15 years...regardless of how frustrating kyler has been the past few seasons there is no way we want to go back to that.

Understood. If we knew EXACTLY what the injury is would clear things up.
Remember if he was immediately was placed on IR he would have to be reinstated after 4 weeks. That would have been after next week, which means he wouldn’t be ready and forced to miss the rest of the season. Maybe he will be healed 4 weeks from today.

This was nothing more than him saving face. He was practicing. He wants to use the excuse he was rehabbing verses getting benched.

I don't think they did. I think the injury, which is a real injury but can maybe be managed, is Kyler's out. I think he was due to return in a few weeks, then, after JB showed out, he was going to be benched. I think the injury then became "unmanageable" for him.

dude is just too small to play the position.

sucks... halfway thru his 2nd season, I thought we really had a shot at an honest to God, superstar unicorn athlete. Backed off that a bit after the first second half collapse, but figured it was only his second year and the glimpses the first half of the season were so tantalizing that I was still pretty excited about the possibilities to come. Then, halfway thru his 3rd season, I thought we might actually, finally have a legit MVP QB... and then the GB game happened.

How EVERYTHING just totally went to crap after that game is beyond bizarre.
Mental weakness.
