Patriots Place Recently Signed Pass Catcher On IR Following A.J. Brown Trade originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Patriots made a significant move on Monday by trading for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. However, New England also made a move that flew a bit under the radar.
New England placed tight end Julian Hill on injured reserve; it did not specify the nature of his injury. Since Hill was placed on IR before the final roster cuts, which won't take place until late August, he will be unable to play for the entire season.
The Patriots signed Hill to a three-year, $15 million deal this offseason after spending the last three seasons with the Dolphins. In his time with Miami, Hill recorded 288 receiving yards over 45 games, but it seemed like he could have played a more prominent role in New England.
TE Julian Hill has been placed on injured reserve, the Patriots announced. This is a significant development for a player the team signed to a 3-year, $15 million deal this offseason.
More could be asked of rookie Eli Raridon (third round, Notre Dame).

The Patriots will need their third-round rookie tight end Eli Raridon to step up in a more prominent role. Raridon played four seasons at Notre Dame, during which he recorded 48 receptions for 623 yards and three touchdowns across 40 games.
Even though New England now has Brown on its roster, who is one of the best pass catchers in the NFL, having playmaking tight ends is still important for an offense. It will be interesting to see who steps up next for the Patriots.
