To be fair, Coughlin was an ass before he admittedly started loosening up before the 2007 season (SB). I've heard from a few places that Haley has learned from his first experience as an HC and may have mellowed out. Not saying it has or will happen, but I believe in second chances. And if he has learned his lesson, we'd be getting a damn good coach.

Tom Couglin is more like Buck Showalter and Haley is more like Bobby Valentine. Tom was unyielding, Haley suffers from an excess of personality. Big difference between the two, IMO. I'm not against giving him a second chance although I'd prefer he get it elsewhere.

Other than the fact that Whisenhunt actually beat good teams every now and then I suppose even with drek at QB. Hell even with Kolb, Skelton, Hall etc. we beat the likes of the Saints, 49ers, Pats, and Seahawks.

Haley's best wins were against the 9-7 Steelers and 9-7 Chargers.

man... if we do get Haley, I REALLY hope he's like a Bellicheck, who needed one HC job to fail at before he succeeded, but I won't lie and say I'm not dubious of that happening.

There's a big misnomer that Belichick was a failure in Cleveland. Every year they improved and were 11-5 in his 4th year and won a playoff game. The following year they 3-1 and then Modell announced the team was moving and everything fell apart causing a 2-10 finish. NFLN had a nice "A Football Life" on the '95 Browns. It's a very good show and worth watching. Belichick hired an incredible staff that inlcuded the likes of Mike Lombardi, Scott Pioli, Eric Mangini, Jim Schwartz, Tom Dmitroff, Mike Tannenbaum, Ozzie Newsome, among others.

Haley was not the GM. Scott Poli was and had worked for the Patriots. Hiring Clancy was on Haley but going after Cassell was on Poli. I'm sure Haley had input on Breaston. He is a better #2 to Fitz than anyone on our roster.

I was wrong earlier. He had 5 years and one winning season. That's a failure IMO. Blame the Modell move on that last season, but even up until then he was 6-10, 7-9, 7-9 and 11-5 one and done in four years, followed by the team falling off a cliff in year 5.

Honestly, if the Cardinals were going to hire Horton, it would have already happened. Once Keim was hired yesterday, if Horton were the guy, he would have been announced today. I think the Cardinals really like McCoy, but they don't have the patience nor balls to wait things out. It's no secret that almost every team in the HC hunt likes McCoy, so the Cardinals inferiority complex will make them move sooner rather than later.

I don't have a problem with Haley. I'm sure he's learned something from the first go around. I like a HC who's not afraid to get in people's faces. This franchise needs that now more than ever. Our mamby pamby players need thicker skin. Players with thick skin don't get beat 58-0! He's been to a SB & took a crappy KC team to the playoffs, regardless of their schedule. I'd rather have Haley as HC, with Horton as DC than Horton as HC with relative unknowns as our Coordinators. Absolutely, Haley!

I don't necessarily agree with this. It is quite possible that their top 2 candidates in no specific order is Horton and Haley and maybe they don't want to make a final decision prior to interviewing both of them.

Agree. Look at it this way: pretend you're Horton. Wouldn't you rather Bidwill look at and talk to every available candidate and then come back and say "We think you're the best prospect out of everyone out there," as opposed to giving him the job without looking elsewhere? For me personally I'd feel much better going into my new job if I felt they chose me from a slew of candidates rather than "settled" on me due to a lack of options. It makes the relationship going forward much smoother.

People loved that he said he could learn from others' mistakes. That he was a leader of men. That he would hire experts and be flexible. That he could manage people well.

I kind of agree with your thoughts on Haley.

I remember an interview with Chiefs All Pro Guard Brian Waters about his first meeting with Haley.

Now remember that Waters is probably the best player on the Chiefs and Haley has just gotten the job and is walking through the Chiefs complex and they come face to face.

In Waters words he stops introduces himself and trys to shake Haleys hand and that if if Haley has some time he would like to talk to him and give him his thoughts on what they needed to improve the team.

Haley rebuffed his hand shake told Waters in no uncertain terms that his job was to play football and he should leave the f***ing coaching to him.

When I heard the interview Waters was mad, really mad.

That being said Haley ended up winning some games in KC.

I'm a little ambivalent on the question of whether or not Todd Haley would be a good head coach for the Cards. Clearly, he's more diverse than Whis has shown himself able to be: he ran a pass-first offense with Warner, then transitioned to a run-based offense in KC. He turned Dewayne Bowe from "enigmatic talent" to "potential Pro Bowler".

But it didn't seem like he got along very well with his staff and his players, and certainly put himself in the position to have to start Tyler Palko for games.

Really interesting stuff. Mao may be exaggerating a little when he implies that Haley was the only one in Arrowhead walking around with a tinfoil hat.

I remember thinking when Haley left that KC would be successful, and then when they did the Casel transplant, I wondered if that would work. I was more confident in Haley than the New England QB, but when the ship went down I gotta admit, I didn't feel that sting anyore like since guys like Q (just a recent stinging example) have left. But if it was really crazy in KC, it would explain a lot. It would also explain why the Owner just handed the keys/power to Reid, for a clean sweep. I don't know much about their Owner, conrad probably has the good dish.

But if Keim is down to hang his hat on Haley, that says a lot. I hope it translates into offensive production if that is the case. What I saw was Keim got the gig, talked about getting upstairs to get back to work, and then Haley pops back up on the radar. Timing and hints suggest a newly crowned GM not believiing in the KC hype. I also think that Keim and Haley would be very QB minded (Mikey likey), even if they go through 5 or 6 like Whiz did, their early round QBs might be able to play.

This is where some questions start that I don't have the answer to. I think Haley can play call all day, game plan too. But his personal interactions seem to burn him although he said he's made some strides on the golden rule. As HC, we were already talking about game management focus for the hc, instead of concentrating offensive/defensive playcall, so I'm still interested to see if Haley would bring in an OC (maybe Kirby ), or handle it all himself and let Horton rock the D. So would we like to have Haley working constantly with our QBs or should he gameplan and demand results? Parcell style, sorta. Might explain why Haley is happy in Steeler land and doesn't want to bounce unless it's cool.
