with Derek Carr officially retiring from NO-

assuming Chris Olave is healthy -- I call NO and find out his cost

under contract for 2025 at $1.5mm or something

5th year option is $15mm sal for 2026 (which i believe has been exercised)

The concussions scare me. They also haven’t been a team to fully embrace rebuilds in the past, regardless id be surprised if they are having a fire sale on young, cost controlled talent.

my theory is:

1. they have a year to see if Rattler or Shough provide enough flashes to conclude that one of them is "the answer"

2. IF not, and that is probably the scenario -- they will be looking to add a highly drafted QB and the rebuild officially begins.

3. At that point, Olave is headed into his option year. Usually -- if you havent extended a player at that point, he is headed into UFA the next offseason.

4. By trading him now, NO gets better comp (two years of a contract vs a single year ) and gets it for a draft where they may need to move up a few spots to get the guy they want.

My theory admittedly isnt airtight -- and NO has done things differently than most --so who knows. And -- you would have to be very comfortable with the concussion situation

If the cost is even close to reasonable I’d grab him. The injuries are a concern, but he’s not in a normally injury prone position for that injury. Just limit his going over the middle.

This is his fourth concussion in his three-year NFL career, including two concussions last season.

We swept the niners last year and probably should have swept the lambs.

I'm more worried about SEA. Maybe Donald changes back into pumpkin, but maybe he doesn't.

And their defense kicked our offense's @ss last year. That was not a competitive match up.
SF figures to be much healthier -- so they will be better - but their defense was bad last year even if the guys returning on D were mostly healthy.

SEA is fascinating. Geno was always really good against the Cards. Darnold will go from a top 3 situation for a QB last year to .... something below average. This will test my theory that QBs are ~60% a reflection of the 10 other guys on offense.
