In the NFL, you can have all the right pieces of talent in place on the field, but if the right person isn't in charge on the sidelines, things can still end pretty poorly for your team.
The 2026 NFL season is rapidly approaching, with just one month until the start of the preseason and the regular season set to begin in two months. There are several new head coaches either inheriting the role for the first time or returning to it after prior stints in charge of another team. And of course, many of the top coaches in the league are back once again with their same franchises.
Recently, Pro Football Focus (PFF) released their NFL head coach rankings entering the 2026 season. Let's take a look at the Top 10.
It's been over four years since Sean McVay captured a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, but he still enters this season as the top-ranked head coach in the league according to PFF. It's a well-earned placement, with McVay securing a 92-57 record and seven Top 10 finishes in the league over his nine years at the helm.
Behind McVay in second place is Kansas City head coach Andy Reid, who brings decades of experience as an NFL head coach and a 149-64 record over his 13 seasons with the franchise. He has won three Super Bowls and made five total appearances in the big game during that stint and is looking to prove he still has the magic touch despite facing major setbacks last season.
Detroit's Dan Campbell, Seattle's Mike Macdonald, and San Francisco's Kyle Shanahan round out the Top 5. The NFC dominates the top five with four coaches, including three from the stacked NFC West. However, the rest of the Top 10 is AFC-heavy, rounding out the balance between the two conferences. Take a look at the Top 10 below.
