Whenever the Suns make a trade, especially ones that involve first round picks, they should make a concerted effort to get second round picks in return.

They should always have draft picks available of some sort.

Actually looking at the trade further, this is exactly what the Suns did. I do like this strategy.

they said "the suns" have wanted miles bridges since last year - sure wish i knew who "the suns" is

and whoever "the suns" is (like we all don't know) must have ran it by jordan ott because let's keep it real - jordan ott loved grayson and oneale - they played like 25+ a game (when healthy) whether they started or not

that 50+ minutes by my hippie math - and my hippie gut says miles and fleming are gonna get a lot of those minutes

which leads us to one simple question imo

grayson/oneale > miles/fleming
or
miles/fleming > grayson/oneale
??????????????????????????????

not just this year but also for the future - because word is "the suns" want to extend miles bridges
Considering both ends of the floor, it definitely seems like miles/fleming > grayson/oneale. Of course, a step back in shooting, but much better scoring at the rim and defense.

The only thing they can’t do is extend Bridges. That would be a catastrophe.

Ideally they extend Brooks for 2 years and Fleming is the PF in year 3 after Bridges is gone. Koa is the swing forward in year 2.
They are definitely extending him. Why would they throw an unprotected first in a deal for a year rental?

We weren’t going anywhere with our team as it sat last week. Are we better? Worse? I have no clue. Is there a magical roster that gets us into the top 5 in the west? Probably not.

I’m willing to see how it plays out. Because that’s what we do suns fans. (We just justify mediocrity)

It’s like when Taco Bell releases a new menu item. It Looks promising, but in end you pay for it with severe stomach issues.

More than that, we justify impatience. The Durant trade was about impatience, not mediocrity. At the time, it looked (to some) like the only way to improve the team. But things change quickly in the NBA, and that's something the Suns haven't understood for a long time. Just look at what Antentokounmpo was traded for, compared to what the Suns gave up for Durant.

All Taco Bell items are basically the same. The better analogy here would be if you go into a Taco Bell and a drug addict comes in off the street to offer you something he just found in a trash can, and you say "Sure, why not, beats waiting in line for a couple of minutes."

.
1. Free’s up $27m to extend Brooks without going over the apron
2. Fleming & Peat aren’t ready for significant minutes until 27-28’
3. Bridges is the type of player/character you can justify for one season but not multiple.

If this trade is a salary dump, surely there were cheaper options out there.

Generally speaking, for players that have positive value, extending them to a reasonable contract makes them easier to trade, unless they are overpaid.

The Suns likely have an idea of the parameters of a new contract.

lol proximo is gonna a come in dunking on us - i think he had us trading grayson and oneale the whole time
I did, and basketball wise I am convinced this deal makes us better.

I really don’t like giving up the 33 1st, but with the new lottery rules, I’m not so sure a 29 1st and a second aren’t more valuable, because of how much earlier the pick is.

What I am really curious about is if the plan is to resign him or not, or whether to wait till the end of the season. It does clear 27 million next year if we let him walk.

Also I am just going to mention flex did tweet yesterday hinting at a trade for bridges, he does have a real source whether you people hate him or not.

Fleming, Peat and Bridges are 4’s. This deal is even worse if they intend to re-sign him.
Fleming can easily play the 3. I am not worried about it, this deal still clears a few minutes for him that would have gone to the combo of Royce and Grayson. If his play merits it, which I think it will he will get his playing time.

would we have to pay more if we waited to extend him at the end of the season? reckon it depends on his performance and if he can stay out of trouble - but i like waiting even if it does cost us more

I agree with the grade. Contracts are whatever. Bridges is a POS.

Whatever, but the Suns saved $20 million in the process. Those extensions James Jones gave Allen and O'Neale made the Suns have to play from behind.

Okay. You’ve said this a couple times , but again, how is trading for an undersized, bad three point shooting 28 year old guy PF who averaged 17/6 last year is swinging for a home run?
it’s not a home run, but it is a double. He is clearly a better player than either of the guys we gave up. He should help our rebounding issue.

They don’t have many options to make the team better, we don’t have picks and we don’t have cap room. That leaves winning trades, and getting lucky on cheap free agents.

Why can we win this trade, because charlotte didn’t want to extend him, possibly because of his baggage.

Fleming in a 4 going forward but next year it’s not a big deal.

I didn't mind the figure on the extensions but the years and options were questionable. We have an owner willing to pay the tax and with all the dead money from Beal, we won't have real space for years so ultimately I don't view those deals as that big of negatives. Royce was always available and Allen was a decent contributer. Losing a 1st hurts, especially when it's for an average at best player like Miles. Throw in his off court issues and how the team wants to extend him, I don't expect to save that much and this deal hurts us longer given the 33 pick.
