A drunken heart speaks a sober mind. Former Phoenix Suns forward and New York Knicks starter Mikal Bridges embodied that adage — though there's no evidence of anyone's blood-alcohol level — on Instagram Monday, June 15, with his extensive and NSFW monologue to celebrate New York's NBA title win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Two days after the Knicks won it all, Bridges went on Instagram Live amid loud music and with what appeared to be a glass of dark alcohol to offer plenty of anecdotes. That includes his former Suns teammate Chris Paul when Bridges was traded from Phoenix to Brooklyn for Kevin Durant in February 2023.
Bridges, the NBA's Ironman, who hasn't missed a game throughout his eight-year career, said that Paul trolled him with a Brooklyn Nets football helmet gift when the blockbuster deal was finalized.
"Shout out CP3, man," Bridges said. "This (expletive) CP is a (expletive) troll, bro. A (expletive) get traded to Brooklyn and he gonna send me a helmet because (expletive) play football in the east. ...
"My vet, old (expletive)!" Bridges said while he happily slapped the Nets helmet in the camera's frame to end his short rant about Paul.
Paul played three seasons with Bridges. They were on the Suns' roster during their 2021 Finals.
Paul was traded to the Washington Wizards in June 2023 in the blockbuster deal for Bradley Beal. Paul was traded again shortly thereafter to Golden State, then joined the Spurs and Clippers in free agency in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Paul retired in February 2026 to cap a 21-year career, after he was dealt by L.A. to Toronto at the trade deadline and then waived.
Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson posted on X about Bridges on Instagram Live, "Somebody take Mikal's phone."
That was after Bridges made goat noises when he spoke about Brunson, the Finals MVP. Bridges also revealed that Brunson was "fueled" by Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon's viral comment about Brunson being a "1A" star and his 6-foot-2 height being too short to lead a team to an NBA title.
Knicks All-Star and starting center Karl-Anthony Towns posted on X to praise Bridges' monologue as an "all-time great IG Live from @mikal_bridges."
The Knicks ended one of the longest championship droughts for an NBA team. Their remarkable playoff run had a historic 13-game win streak, just three losses and an all-time-best 282-point differential.
