Wow! I guess the league is valuing his versatility then, which many of us see as a negative (as in he has no position). If so, that's great for us. Until, of course, as you mentioned, Monti passes on the Big John for a RT lol

C'mon, draft gods and Monti, bring home Bailey!
I’m not sure it’s Reese’s versatility that the league is valuing. I think his supposedly higher ceiling is why teams have put him ahead of Bailey. The overall ineptitude of this franchise leaves us in a tough position to draft someone like Reese. It’ll be interesting to see what we do.

I think they like his versatility. I also think he fell apart the last third of his last season when they needed him most. I believe he’s less effective than Bailey at rushing the passer. He’s likely best at ILB, but I suspect he sees that spot as less glamorous.

So do you think or have a hunch we would pick Bain over Bailey? Do you think Francis is gonna be the pick? If we do go Maugoa at 3 and we can’t get Simpson I will take Parker at 34…..

Parker is a very physical rusher who might fit at DE.

On the local radio this morning, they had Matt Patricia(OSU DC) on talking about Reese, amongst other things. Said he can absolutely be an edge rusher in the NFL and a good one. Said how they changed his role as the season went on because he was their best front 7 player and liked his versatility.
Is it a coach just talking up his players or giving an honest assessment? With Patricia, I'm thinking the latter.

I'll try to give Reese the benefit of the doubt if we draft him.

He worries me the most of all the top picks that the Cards could take at #3. His natural position and most experience has been at ILB not edge. I really prefer Bailey.

'The Cards trade down and get the 9th or 10th pick'

We are absolutely trading this pick.

History of runningbacks taken top 10:

Jeanty: Raiders - 6
Bijan: Falcons - 8
Saquon: Giants - 2
Fournette: Jags - 4
CMC: Panthers - 8
Zeke: Cowboys - 4
Gurley: Rams - 10
Trent Richardson: Browns - 3
CJ Spiller: Bills - 9

That's everyone since 2010. The majority of these selections have earned their team years of mockery and only found success on their second teams. The good ones, Zeke and Gurley, were both completely washed by their 5th year in the league.

If you told me a RT in this draft would only give up 4 sacks a year for the next 12 years I would sprint to the podium. Now if we take a RT and he sucks that would be awful, there's a certainly a risk to that with these prospects.
Only found success on their second team? 6 of them were great for their drafting team or are only entering their second season (jeanty). Weird (and inaccurate) argument.

Your best argument against a rb is the contract argument. And it’s legit. It’s the only argument that makes me pause on love.

If we go ILB has any team ever come close to chasing a position with first round picks like we have in such a short timeframe?

Bucanon
Reddick
Collins
Simmons
Reese(?)

With the best of the bunch being an undersized player whom they had to make up a position for (the dollar backer).

I'm hoping all the buzz about us wanting Reese is just talk to make sure the Cowboys give us a fair deal in a trade down.

Bailey assaulting a photographer and having work ethic concerns could easily factor into Monti's decision between sticking and a trade down.

If they dont like Bailey and cant trade down, I'm crossing my fingers he chooses Bain over either of the Ohio State guys.
